Flyers/Predators deal
« on: May 29, 2012, 06:25:01 PM »
Flyers send:
James van Riemsdyk, $2.5m (2013-14)

Predators send:
Alexander Edler, $3.3m (2012-13)
Montreal's 4th

I do this deal to help bolster my already solid cast of dmen. The pic was added to compensate for the longer and cheaper contract. Thanks for the quick deal SlackJack.

Agreed, confirmed, signed and delivered. Resigning Edler next year wasn't going to happen so thanks to Favo I get JVR on a nice contract in return for last seasons 3rd ranked defenceman and save a bit of cap as well. Thanks for the straight forward deal.  :toast:

Wow! Was not jvr concussed last year? I never comment, I am a silent partner to this league, but to me this deal smells of mouldy cheese. Edler and pick for jvr is ludicrous. You have to have alot of faith in his future health to make that trade. I am not trying to cause trouble, just expressing my opinion.

JVR is only 23.
I have been talking to SlackJack about Edler as well and he actually offered me less for Edler as he wanted to get value for him instead of use him for one year then release him to FA as well as save some cap. JVR did take a step back last season with injuries but he should be a great player for many years.
Deal makes enough sense to me to pass, hope this is a good explanation for SlackJack and why this deal is here.

JVR was indeed concussed last year....along with roughly 10% of all active players in the NHL. The baseline for diagnoses has changed so dramatically as to make concussion issues unavoidable. Therefore I have as much faith in JVR's future health as I do in any of my players. That is to say I have none.

I am also not certain that Alexander Edler remains Vancouver's best choice for power-play quarterback. There is a lot of talk in this market about bringing in someone else to fill that role because Edler's performance has been wildly inconsistent. What I am certain of is that I would not be resigning him at $6.8m per year, though I would definitely pick up Patrice Bergeron's contract if it was on the table.

I make trades based on a lot of different criteria, such as the fact that I've cleared $.8m in cap space and that JVR is only 23 years old. I also really like the fact that he was picked 2nd over-all. I find nothing ludicrous about my assessment. To the contrary, I feel like the trade is a win win if not an outright triumph in my favour. Now this is me expressing my opinion: If someone is going to take a run at a deal I have agreed to I would prefer to read a well thought-out critique than random comments like it smells like cheese.

Exactly my thought as well... Where SlackJack wins by getting the younger player with more potential, I made the deal because I know getting one of the four top quality dmen in FA will be expensive. Edler might only last one season, as I will not be resigning him for 6.8 either, but at least I know my d is solid this season. And because I will not be resigning him, I get a draft pick back in what I consider to be one of the best draft classes in this league. And yes, it will be that deep.

I'm ok with this deal... I like the Edler pick-up for Favo here. JVR if he gets back to form (it's a gamble) but he still should be something special for a VERY good Philly team

First off, I aologize to SlackJack on the mouldy cheese comment on my assessment on the trade. Definately not called for and very classless on my part. I still don't like the trade but who am I to even evaluate anyways. The trade commitee is composed of extremely competent individuals who have a vast knowledge of the players and always make rational asessments of trades. Sorry once again.

If you do not like something, than you should be alloud to voice your opinion even if you are not on the trade committee. Next time, just put a little more thought and research into it.

  • Rhino7: So by winning NCAAF you are guaranteed a team, do you boot someone to make room or what? I’m just speaking as if all GMs were actually active.
  • Daddy: In my experience there is always "someone" that should be booted. They dont get booted because most leagues struggle at filling membership. NFL LIVE is so popular i could legit have an NFL LIVE 2 and it would be filled instantly.
  • Daddy: Doing that would diminish what NFL LIVE is. Which is why we created NCAA. NCAA supports those wanting an NFL LIVE franchise but cannot get in because we have franchise "holding" GMs.
  • Daddy: A "holding" GM is barely active. Never has a chance to win it all and responds to pms from peers after weeks or even months.
  • Daddy: If someone wins a 64 team LIVE league. NCAA or not. As hard as it is to win a LIVE league. And we gave all 32 NFL LIVE GMs the chance to win that very same league. Then hell yes. If need be. Some 2-15 GM or likewise that we KNOW isnt doing all they can to get better will be in jeopardy of being replaced.
  • BayAreaBallers: essentially this is a feeder for the NFL NBA. gives gusy a chance to prove they can be active and at least do whats needed so that they are considered for nba and nfl live leagues
    Today at 03:19:29 PM
  • Daddy: These leagues arent created and paid for so people can hold them and not do Crap. The purpose is to have the best Dynasty GMs in the world test themselves on an even and realistic playing field. You win a LIVE league. You are a made Man. Period.
  • Daddy: @BAB exactly. They are feeder leagues.
