I am confused...is a league equivalent to a circuit? Does each circuit have it's own player universe? If so, the US circuit would essentially be a 8 team league? What happens when someone in the Asian Circuit plays a North American team? Is it possible to have the same player playing for both sides?

Yes, each circuit it is own league/universe.  Circuits only play each other in the WBC tournament in which scores of each side are posted.  Only at that time is there a chance for a player to be on both teams in a matchup.

So there are basically 5 leagues/circuits with unique player universes. I am assuming trades are limited to be within each universe? Otherwise a team can end up with 5 Matt Kemps.  The best team in each league/circuit then play in the WBC, is that right?

I really want to understand the setup before deciding whether to join or not.

Correct.  They operate completely separate until the WBC where they merely play each other.  The free agency and trade deadline is just prior to the actual WBC playoffs.

The best team in each circuit makes it to WBC qualifiers.  The best team in each country makes it to the WBC whether that was determined during the regular season or the one-week qualifiers.  USA, Japan, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Canada are countries that are guaranteed an entrant into the WBC.  Other countries compete with each other.  The field of countries will be determined (8-16) during this sign-up process.  If there is one team from one country and that team does well then they will easily make it to the WBC or WBC qualifiers.

Now that I'm more aware of some of the rules, I would like to change my team in the Asian Circuit.  I would like the metro area of Sydney, Australia, mate.  I would like Melbourne for my AAA-affiliate.

MLB - Los Angeles (already finalized)
AAA - San Diego, CA
AA - San Jose, CA
A - Riverside, CA
