Montreal and Nashville Strike Gold
« on: April 29, 2012, 08:19:14 PM »
:MON-NHL: gets
Patrik Berglund, $4.1m (2012-13)
Matt Moulson, $3.1m (2012-13)
Dylan Olsen, N/C (28 games)
:VAN: 3rd Round

---------------------------------------------------
:NAS: gets
Brad Richards, $5.4m (2013-14)
Max Talbot, $2.5m (2013-14)
Ryan Ellis, $1.5m (2013-14)
:ANA: 4th Round

I do this to clear up some cap. I had no room to sign anyone or call Ellis up so I did what needed to be done. I like what Moulson and Berglund bring to the table. Richards I like, but not at that price, and not a huge fan of Talbot.

Considering that nashville is getting three guys on much better contracts, I cannot approve of this deal until the anaheims pick is out. The better contracts should be enough to compensate for what you are sending over.

I don't understand why you think it's so much better for my side. I'm eating cap and sending the better players. Moulson equals Richards but with a far better cap hit for this season and I think Berglund will prove far superior to Talbot. The fact that Moulson has to be extended or walked away from may well be balanced by the fact that I cannot walk away from Talbot. If those were the only 2 players involved I'd never do the deal.

Why it works for me is the future potential of Ellis. Which, as my trade partner said, he'd never be able to see because he is so tight up against the cap. He said he was happy to get rid Talbot's and Richard's contracts while making cap room, getting a prospect, and moving up in the draft. Curious to see what others have to say but I'm scratching my head.

Although richards numbers were not as good as moulsons by .1%, I feel that richards is still a superstar. Talbot is not the fanciiest player in the deal, I would much rather have his cap hit and point percentage than berglands point percentage. And I do understand that obtaining ellis is what sealed the deal, that was not my problem. My problem is with you obtaining three longer contracts in exchange for two shorter contracts with no real compensation other than .6k in cap space and an additional 4.2m in cap after free agency has been open for a week, as that is when waivers will be opened.

Thanks for the explanation. You and I will have to remember to compare Berglund and Talbot at the end of next season. Side bet?
Anyway, the guy said he struck gold so I'm thinking he's happy with the deal. Cheers!

And as a member of the trade commitee, it is not my job to gage how happy a team is with their deal, but to gage how fair I feel the deal is. A lot of this game involves feelings and predictions, so obviously we will not know who won which deal until the end of the season. But with the evidence presented in front of me, I do not feel the deal is fair. I believe talbot is very much on an upswing, and will produce a fair amount of points for his cap hit versus berglund who is barely making what I feel is solid for his cap.

If you want to keep this in mind, be my guess lol... but with how busy my life can get, do not be surprised if I do not remember.

Just trying to have some fun. As I said I'll respect whatever decision the trade committee makes and opt to drop the pick rather than undo all the work we did to make the trade. Peace.

It could do with the :ANA: pick but it isn't a horrible trade. Nashville appears to be coming out on top but Berglund is only 23 and Moulson has proved to be a stud with Tavares.
