FA Compensation
« on: January 12, 2012, 12:30:21 PM »
Will the pitching rankings for FA compensation be based on Fantrax or the new 50/50 scoring method that was approved by the RC?  I am not sure why Chris Capuano and Tim Stauffer are Type A FAs.  I don't believe that they were among the top 30 SP or top 36 RP last year.

They were based on the previous scoring system, and IMO, should not be changed to reflect the new scoring system as all planning were done based on the previous scoring model.

That's fine, and it makes it easier for us.  How did Stauffer and Capuano become Type A FAs?

They both qualified as RPs :)

This is correct they both qualified as RP in 2011 due to the 2010 season.  There points made them the #1 and #2 RP for the 2011 season.

Just noticed that in the rules under position eligibility it says

Position Eligibility
A minor league player called up from the EDR will immediately have their eligibility analyzed.  All players eligible for multiple positions will be analyzed in the offseason.  The rule is 25 GP and 20 IP (half of the eligibility for the MLB clock on prospect contracts) for the past and current season.  Players are always eligible for at least one position.  If they were eligible for multiple positions and then became ineligible for such positions, positions will be removed in order of when they first became eligible for such positions in the first place.

As the GM, if you see that a player of yours has become eligible for another position (C-CI-MI-OF-SP-RP) during the season then please post this in the Transactions board!

While the league rules in fantrax for position eligibility states

Position Eligibility
Games needed from previous season for a player to qualify at a hitting position : 25
Games needed from current season for a player to qualify at a hitting position: 25
Starts needed from previous season for a player to qualify as a starter : 4
Starts needed from current season for a player to qualify as a starter : 4
Relief appearances needed from previous season for a player to qualify as a reliever : 12
Relief appearances needed from current season for a player to qualify as a reliever: 12
Use Fantrax's default position(s) even if player qualifies for at least one position based on above criteria: No
Note: If a player does not qualify for any positions based on the above selections, he will qualify at the position(s) played most in the previous season. If he did not play at all last season, then the default position(s) will be used.

For the hitting positions they match up but for pitchers PROFSL rules state that it is based on IP while fantrax is set up for Starts and Apperances.  Does this need to be updated?

Fantrax does not list either Capuano or Stauffer as an RP in 2011.  Why is that?

They show up in last years league (2011) as RP to me.  Are you looking at this years league (2012)?  They have now lost there RP eligibility due to not making enough appearances in 2011 and only show up as SP in this years league (2012).

They lost their eligibility at the end of 2011. The were eligible for RP in 2011, hence the heightened value for mediocre pitchers. And the elevated cost to resign them. Probably why they are FAs.

And no, the compensation will be based on the old scoring system since we didn't agree on the new scoring system since well after cuts were made.

The resigning cost was simply absurd. I would had liked to keep Stauffer for one, but at the cost he had, it was simply not worth it. I would rather try to get him in FA or take my compensation pick and capitalize on his past value.

How do we determine supplemental picks if one team has signed two type A free agents from two different teams?  Is it reverse order of standings?  It cannot be who was signed first, because with our system of releasing CI and then P and so forth it doesn't work...
