Houston Rockets 1st Round Pick in 2022
Mfiondu Kabengele $2.8m (2023) RFA

Toronto Raptors trade:
Corey Kispert $2.7m (2025) RFA

Accepts, we move what will likely be a 25-30 pick for a guy who went top 15 last year and we think can be a good source of 3s for some time to come. Kabengele is a throw in to us who we would have cut if need be.

Toronto makes this trade as a we aren't that high on Kispert. While he was taken #15 overall in the 2021 NBA draft he is primarily a shooter and doesn't have a particularly high ceiling. While a Joe Harris, Doug McDermott, Davis Bertans type player is certainly valuable we hope with a 1st round pick next year, even if it is a late one, to be able to get a player with a higher ceiling that can hopefully help us more. As a rebuilding team, it makes sense for Toronto to take a gamble on possibly obtaining a higher ceiling player (using the 2022 draft pick) rather than stick with a player with the ceiling of Doug McDermott/Joe Harris/Davis Bertans. Kabengele is a dart throw, and with 51 games played we have a few more NBA games to evaluate him before cutting him for free if we need to.
