Diamondbacks/ Baltimore DEAL
« on: October 18, 2011, 11:16:05 PM »
Arizona Diamondbacks  receives
P Detwiler, Ross, $0.5m (P-2012)
SP Miller, Andrew, $0.5m (2012)

 Baltimore Orioles receives
OF Ellsbury, Jacoby, $6.5m (2015)
SP Zambrano, Carlos, $18.5m (2012)

Arizona accepts this trade to open my team to future grows, to be able to look for new opportunities and continue to be competitive in the league.

I like to thank all the managers that where also interested in this deal and for all their creativeness and wiliness to make a deal. But I decide this is the best for my team.

The orioles are excited to add a quality bat in ellsbury. Zambranos contract is tough to take on but i have the cap room to do it. Detwiler and miller are serviceable cheap pitchers but weren't in my long term plans.

I understand the point to this deal and helping ARZ get under the cap, but I do not think that I can pass it as is.

Zambrano is a handful of salary for 1 year, but Ellsbury was #5 OF in 2011 and had a breakthrough year.  His contract is fantastic for the performance.  The bad of Zambrano for a year is eclipsed by Ellsbury and his contract for the future.

I don't see Miller or Detwiler being in their respective rotations next year.

To me ARZ should see a better return on this deal, atleast one good prospect, also possibly a hitting prospect.

Please see how the remainder of the TC evaluate the deal.  I would suggest a renegotiation.

As much as I respect both GMs (I voted for Omar as GM of the year) I just don't see enough value going back to the D'backs. Granted Big-Z is a horrible contract, but it is for just one season, and Ellsbury's awesome contract balances it out, since he is very affordable for many years. Detwiler does have a chance to make Washington's rotation, but I just don't see any real talent headed back to Arizona. At least one legitimate prospect should be changing hands. I also realize Omar is in a bad spot cap wise, but dropping Zambrano alone would clear 2 mil, rather than trading away your best player.

I totally agree with both Dan and Rob. Ellsbury contract and performance far outways any negative of taking Zambrano. If the cap was the issue Big Z should have been released in late August and this year his cap would only be 9m against Arizona's cap. Ellsbury age, salary and performance, demands far better value than what is going through in this deal.

As per what Dan said, dropping Z and getting the 2m savings, then moving Ellsbury without big Z would probably get your fair value for what Jacoby should bring.

Again the comite is no performing its mision, the main role of you guys is toi wach that no team is dompingplayer in another team your role is not to analyse a trade on your opinion if you would have done it or not, the only role you have isto prevent that somebody builds a super team by dumppinplayers from other teams.

Im sorry Omar but I disagree. This trade is bad enough that it would be considered complete stacking of one side to another team.

The job of the TC if I understand is to evaluate the trades to make sure fair value and talent is being exchanged to help keep the integrity of the league. The TC did its job here, without a doubt.

I would like to start out by saying I am in the belief that a deal should only be vetoed when there is clear collusion between the two parties.  The TC shouldn't be able to veto a deal on how they perceive the value of the players being dealt are.  If arizona felt they could get a better deal they would have taken it. Arizona proposed this deal to me and I accepted.  Arizona would be getting 20M+ in cap room which will allow them to get under the cap and would allow them to be players in the FA Market.  Ellsbury is also a year removed from missing an entire year with injuries and scoring -3.6 points so he is no sure thing when it comes to being a top 5 OF going forward. Miller will be in play for a rotation spot beckett, lester, bucholz and lackey.  Detwiler also has a great chance to be in the washington rotation next year in my opinion.
With all this in mind what type of prospect(s) is the TC suggesting be added to the deal to make this fair in there eyes?
