Phillies & Astros
« on: August 12, 2019, 05:45:01 PM »
Phillies send:
SP/RP Wacha, Michael $3.2m (2022)
OF Dylan Cousins P-n/a
OF Tejada Jr. Miguel P-n/a
SP Alaniz, Adrian P-n/a
SP Alezones, Lewis P-n/a
SP Angulo, Joalbert P-n/a
SP Gowdy, Kevin P-n/a
SP Hammer, J.D P-n/a

Astros send:
SP Garrett Cole $13.5m (2019)
**Phillies extend Garrett Cole highest ranking is current #2 SP = $24.5m 5yr extension
SP Garrett Cole $24.5m (2024)

Astros came calling with cap concerns and wanted to recoup players under affordable deals. I will gladly extend Cole and have cleared the cap to do so.

Jojo to confirm

Houston Agrees! Hated, I mean hated to get rid of Cole but won't be able to fit him under the cap. Getting a SP in Wacha and a spec back in Cozens. Such is life with a cap! :iatp:

:veto: I understand having to get under cap but Gerrit Cole is one of the best pitchers on the planet and he's like 27. Michael Wacha shouldn't even be considered a starter at this point, and none of these prospects hold any value. The Astros have all off season to make their money situation work, I feel as though this was a rushed trade and not fair value for Gerrit Cole at all

There is zero value going back to Houston for one of the best pitchers in baseball in his prime.  Sure there are a few low end specs from a gutted farm system for fluff, but overall there is no value.

:veto: sorry guys, hate to do this but have to agree with Brent and Yeagg. To me there is not a single piece of signiticant impact or enough upside that justifies giving up Cole. I know the salary is a big factor but still got to get more for someone as good as Cole in his prime. Also Houston did just clear a bunch of cap moving Altuve to me so makes this deal so just can't justify approving this.

This trade is completed.
All due respect to Vik, it was prior to the Altuve trade and was negotiated in good faith.

Terms were set by Jojo who was given everything he asked for.

The value of a player(s) is determined by the GM and in this case Cole was on an expiring contract.

In real life he was traded for Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz, third baseman Colin Moran and outfielder Jason Martin.? And he had 2 years of control left.

Sorry fellas but I'm gonna rule with the majority of votes on this one especially with inside knowledge of the negotiations.
