Wennberg was flex waived as part of a 18/19 transaction and therefore a claim on him needs to be a 18/19 transaction as well. Detroit can't afford the contract in 18/19 since they used their remaining cap to pay off Niemi. Therefore I have to decline Detroit's claim.Let me know if that's clear/fair.
I think it's fine, but that's not how I interpreted the rules or the posting. In my mind, his claim date is after the roster rollover so the claim transaction doesn't happen until 19/20. I had been eyeing him and even intentionally submitted my claim after the 18/19 season. If I had known that it would count as a 18/19 transaction, there are a couple more things that I could have done with my roster to try and fit the claim in, like buyout Larsson, Rask and Zaitsev. Since this is your ruling, maybe we should update the Flex waiver rules to have a brief no-flex period near season rollover.
***If a player is flexed at the end of the season and the 72 hour clock bleeds into the following season, all claims made are considered effective in the season in which the player was waived (the prior season)***
I fixed it up for next time:
