Detroit Tigers Fan Forum Petition Thread
« on: October 05, 2011, 06:33:36 PM »
There are eligibility rules for having a team forum.  We need ten fans of the team all with at least 100 posts to sign a petition.  One of the fans must be a commissioner or HOF member.

Knobler indicates that Oswalt has turned the Tigers down even though they were very interested in signing him (Twitter links). They even had Justin Verlander make a recruiting call. He says the Tigers are likely to leave the fifth starter's job up for grabs in Spring Training.

Man, they would have a stellar rotation has he joined. Bit ball park, Roy must have alot of takers at the moment

The Tigers have some interest in Hideki Matsui and Raul Ibanez, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports on Twitter. Victor Martinez will likely miss the entire season with a torn ACL, so Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski is in the market for a designated hitter.

The Tigers are considering free agents Johnny Damon and Juan Pierre, but might rely on internal options at DH. Matsui, Ibanez, Pierre and Damon all bat from the left side, but club could consider right-handed bats such as Vladimir Guerrero, Magglio Ordonez and Derrek Lee. Both Matsui and Ibanez have been linked to the Yankees, another club that may add a designated hitter.

Max Scherzer and Rick Porcello, who have dominated in six combined starts since June 17: four wins, 40 IP, 1.80 ERA, 0.925 WHIP and 35/7 K:BB ratio.

I am a little surprised nobody has signed this yet. Where are all the Detroit fans?

If they can do that in the fall, combined with Justin Verlander, the Tigers would be the top team in the AL.

There are a couple dozen members who cheer for all Detroit teams, but none of them appear active enough to hit the discussion forums.

The Tigers asked the Cubs about second baseman Darwin Barney a couple of weeks ago, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports (on Twitter). However, talks didn't progress.

The Tigers are probably willing to part with prospect Rob Brantly, Henning writes. Casey Crosby, Jacob Turner or Bruce Rondon could also be available, but the Tigers don’t want to discuss Nick Castellanos. The third base prospect, who was recently named MVP of the Futures Game, has taken fly balls in the outfield to increase his versatility.

Castellanos has come on strong this year, but I'm also surprised that they are willing to discuss Jacob Turner.

Castellanos has been great. The Tigers could really use him as well. Outside of Prince Miggy and AJax, the rest of the offense has been awful at best
