Lakers trade out a top-notch big man to get two young guards and a pick. Throwing in Valentine kind of hurts as I think he'll have another good season building on last year, but hopefully in a couple of years Huerter can put up similar stats.

Adding some more youth to the team for the future, after signing a lot of middle to older age veterans in free agency so far.

Pelicans agree.  I hate to give up my rookies and my 1st from next season, but Randle is a young stud who will fit right into my team philosophy with the likes of Davis and Griffin.  Randle being a RFA after next season factored in significantly as I pretty much have him under team control for 5 seasons which will be through his prime.  I feel like we both got what we wanted from this deal and am happy to welcome a RL Pelican to the team.
