News from the City of Brotherley Love
« on: July 15, 2018, 12:53:59 AM »
As The Sixers have had a change of manager, I thought it best to establish a new thread for media announcements.

A little about myself--formerly a truck driver, my wife's health resulted in me taking early retirement, and settling in the village of Milton on the south coast of NSW in Australia.  Our house is about 3hrs drive south of Sydney and about 5 minutes from the amazing beach of Mollymook, which also has one of Australia's top rated golf course (no, I'm not a golfer, but it is a great reason for our son to visit us often).  Described by my parents as still having my first dollar, we have been fortunate to purchase several properties which we rent out, allowing us to be fully funded retirees.

In May, the Sixers announced that they had signed Australian great Andrew Gaze as Head Coach.  The following is a press release introducing Gaze to the public of Philadelphia.

Following the decision to allow Quin Snyder to move to New York, the new Australian based management for the Sixers didn't have to look far for a replacement.

New coach Andrew Gaze is considered by many basketball fans in Australia to be a member of Basketball Royalty--when Australians think of Basketball, the first player they think of Andrew Gaze. Considered by many as the greatest basketballer in Australian history, even allowing for #1 draft picks Andrew Bogut and Ben Simmons, Gaze represented Australia in 5 Olympic Games, being the Australian Team's flag bearer at the opening ceremony for the Sydney Olympics in 2000. From 1986-2000 Gaze was selected in the all-NBL First Team

In 1991 he was named as one of FIBA's greatest 50 players--he is the second highest all-time scorer in both the Olympics, and the FIBA World Cup behind Brazilian legend Oscar Schmidt

In 2005, Gaze was inducted into the Australian Sports Hall of Fame and in 2013 he joined his father Lindsay in the FIBA Hall of Fame--being only the 3rd Australian to receive such an honour.  His father played in 3 Olympic Games and coached the Melbourne Tigers for an incredible 35 years, as well as coaching the Australian National team from 1972-1984.

Until recently, Gaze was coach of the Sydney Kings in the Australian NBL.

Sixers are proud to have such an outstanding man as Andrew Gaze take over the reigns.

A busy first off-season for the new management in the City of Brotherley Love.

After changing coach, bringing in the Aussie legend Andrew Gaze, the sixers drafted Atlanta Guard Kevin Huerter and Memphis Guard Jevon Carter.  Once the draft concluded, Philly entered the FA market, with the first pick-up being New Orleans SF Darius Miller. He was soon followed onto the roster by Chicago Guard Cameron Payne. Clippers PF/C Luc Richard Mbah a Moute completed transactions up to now.

There are a few minimum salary guys who are still of interest, so maybe FA isn't over for now.

Philly have made their first trade under new management. After advising that Danilo Gallinari was available for trade Indiana got on the phone with an offer that will hopefully release more funds to enter into the FA market next off-season.

We are released from Gallinari's 2 yr contract, while welcoming PF Marcus Morris and G, Tim Frazier (both due to become FA next off-season) C Alan Williams on a 2yr contract and the remaining 2yrs of recently retired Kevin Martin's, as Indiana's 2nd rd pick in 2023 draft.

Whilst it is most likely that Frazier will be allowed to walk at the end of this season, Morris is an interesting proposition who maybe looking at a longer contract down the track.

Having picked up Marcus Morris in the trade with Indiana, Philly has moved quickly to secure Marcus for the future, extending his contract for a further 4yrs. Both management, and Marcus are very excited by the events.

Philly have decided to part ways with 2 players. They are Kevin Martin and Tim Frazier.

As Martin had retired, the decision was a mere formality to clear a roster spot. Waiving Fraziergives us space to pick up a player using MPE.

Philly have made offers for a few players on MPE contracts, and are hopeful that there will be more news to report shortly.

  • Daddy: Apparently the MLB has put forth the idea of reducing the number of minor-league teams by more than a quarter (42 teams would be cut in the reported proposal). Additionally, MLB's proposal would reduce the draft to 20 rounds, reduce the number of contracted players in each organization, and alter the structure -- with some affiliates moving up or down in level.
