Islanders - Oilers
« on: July 10, 2018, 06:16:18 PM »
Oilers get
D Dante Fabbro, $m (P-n/a)
G Aaron Dell, $0.5m (P-19/20)
D Danny Dekeyser, $2m (2019-2020)
2019 2nd Round Draft Pick, Philadelphia

Islanders get
G Pekka Rinne, $7m (2020-2021)

I know Pekka may only play 2-3 more years but I have been looking to improve my goalie points for a price I was willing to pay

:EDM: Confirms. I am pretty happy with this deal as it scratches some of my to do list. LOVE my return in Dell and Fabbro.

Thanks for the deal Snugs and good luck with your team moving forward.......... :winner: :toth: :toth:

Seems like a fairly low return for a top-5 goalie, with the best fantasy points per game for goalies (59 games played versus 65+ for the other top-5 goalies).

- Dell is a 29-year old backup
- Dekeyser is a 28-year old D-man making $2m per year for 1.08 fanpts/game (0.6/game last year) ... That production can be found on the FA market for $0.9m per year or less. To me he is a useless return piece in this trade
- 2019 2nd round pick isn't much

Only value here is Fabbro - who's good, but I don't know how well he'll do offensively, aka fantasy wise, when he's behind the likes of Subban, Josi, Ellis, Ekholm on the Nashville blueline for powerplay time and overall icetime.

Rinne will live out the life of that contract and have top value in all 3 years I think.

Pekka will be 36 when the season starts and is in the last year of his contract. There is no guarantee that he will play 3 more years. He was horrible in the playoffs which could be from playing too many games at his age. They like Saros and will give him more games this year limiting Pekka to 45-50 beginning the transition to saros. If they resign him he will get less games in year 2 and I believe he will be the backup in year three if he dont retire before then.

:iatp: fine line with goalies between getting good value to pretty much worthless.  Rinnie was advertised for sale and he took his best offer. Cant fault him.

I’d be more inclined to believe that statement if it had been more than 24hrs he was on the block. Still hasn’t been...

This is borderline for me. I think the Oilers are selling low, and maybe too low, though not as low as in the Draisaitl deal.

If this trade was posted between two established GM's I might pass it as is. That isn't the case here though, and so I am leaning towards wanting to see a better return for Edmonton. If the Islanders really think Rinne is that bad they can walk away. There are plenty of GM's that will want a top 4 goalie for the year, and for a better price. Picks and prospects are a dime-a-dozen!

Withholding my vote/veto pending further TC input and/or a re-working of the deal.

the is a big difference between a player that will be 36 for the start of the season and one that is 21 so this is not comparable to draisaitl. Pekka has not said hes coming back after next year all he has said is he will be trying to win next year so because there is no guarentee how long he will play I can not offer anything significantly more. If you guys veto the trade then I will have to walk away from the deal

and what does our two experience have to do with it? if you would aprove it if we were two established GMs the deal is the same so you should approve it for us
