I find the more a GM involved in a trade tries to defend it, the more he/she knows they’re on the better end, and the more I want to veto the deal :disco:

I think I better chime in..........

I always have and always will respect the decisions made by the TC. A lot of talk about VALUE and Pekke's past accomplishments. Every GM will put a different value on any player...... no two will be alike in my opinion.

I don't see the VALUE of 7m on a 36yr old player who is having his minutes reduced now that Sarros is in the mix. What he did 2yrs ago really isn't relevant......is it??? I think too much is put on FTP as the only basis of approving or vetoing a trade.

Another thing I want to address is GM's opinions on where a player sits in the teams depth charts. I used to really go by that and found it is like reading palms.......you just don't know. The NHL is in constant flux......and constant change. Hasn't Dougie Hamilton been traded twice.....Wasn't Cam Talbot a back up not long ago??  I hope some of you can see my point.

I will let the chips fall where they may and decide my future in this league.

the is a big difference between a player that will be 36 for the start of the season and one that is 21 so this is not comparable to draisaitl. Pekka has not said hes coming back after next year all he has said is he will be trying to win next year so because there is no guarentee how long he will play I can not offer anything significantly more. If you guys veto the trade then I will have to walk away from the deal

and what does our two experience have to do with it? if you would aprove it if we were two established GMs the deal is the same so you should approve it for us
I agree with many of your points, and your rationale for forwarding a low bid for Rinne is sound. But I do think it is low, if only because the 2nd round pick is for 2019 and not this year. But that's just my take.

As far as the experience of the GM goes, unfortunately it does play in. Every time a new person joins there is a learning curve that gets exploited by the more seasoned GM's. It is the TC's duty to take this into consideration somewhat.

At the end of the day I have done nothing but make comment. I have neither voted in favour, nor against. If this alone is enough to scare off a GM from either the deal at hand, or the league as a whole, then clearly the commitment wasn't there to begin with.

I've had a sleep on it and will approve. Clearly the passion is there on the part of both GM's, and as I said I thought it was close to begin with. One point in Edmonton's favour that hasn't been highlighted is the fact that they save $5m on the deal.

I'm finding myself aligned with Cally and SlackJack on this just in terms of our DNHL market value for goalies.  For example, this just happened:

Quote
Red Wings:
C Gustav Nyquist, $3.5m (2019-2020)
G Robert Luongo, $5.3m (2018-2019)

for

Hurricanes:
C Anze Kopitar, $8.3m (2020-2021)
2018 1st Round Draft Pick, Colorado, $m this year

I don't think you can argue that the return for Luongo is superior to this. It's not really about what's fair from a player to player basis.  It's about what are market determines is fair.

Having said that, I believe both teams have defended their positions well, and the $5m in savings cannot be ignored.  For these reasons.   :iatp:

Also I wouldn't mind seeing that goalie market value decrease, so this helps :)  Hey Cally wanna talk Schneider again??  :P :P :P

I’ll  :iatp:

2 guys wanting to make a trade and defending wanting to uphold the trade despite reading feedback works for me. It’s a free league and if both are content with the deal, I’m not gonna say no to them!

Maybe there’s no trade on the table anymore though.
NYI has stated that they have pulled out.

I consider this trade very passable. I'm not sure if the Islanders were serious about backing out our if the discussion just got a little heated.

Rinne could have maybe gotten a little more, but I really think his days are numbered with Saros nipping at his heels. It would be different if the Preds didn't have an heir-apparent in waiting.

Considering the return I got for Luongo and Anderson recently, two decent but older goalies, I'd say this is better. I had those guys on the market for like 2 seasons. All Fabbro has pretty great upside, he'll be a great player in Nashville or elsewhere if he's stuck behind a logjam. The 2nd rd is decent, and Dell was getting talking about like the next Talbot or Darling... though we see what happened with Darling. Dell could be a fringe starter, even if that is unlikely.

  • Daddy: Honestly i love the deal because my GMs love it. I dont say good deal bad deal or i like this side better.  My goal is to provide a fair platform where people are free to trade and not be judged because nobody knows for sure how these trades will play out. Lots of ACLs are gonna tear between now and new years.  Im always happy that two strangers with different backgrounds can meet in our league and enjoy freedom to be themselves and do what THEY THINK is best. I love every deal. (Had to share that @Braves) :toast:
