1. Contraction draft at 10 rounds - I did this because at most there are 160 MLB players, and 100 MiLB players. 10 rounds would cover 160 players of those, leaving 100 to go into FA. I figured the later round picks would go unused. 10 was an arbitrary number and I didn't do any research. Seeing that there are 210 players eligible to be drafted, I'm going to drop it down to 7 rounds. That would mean 112 players would be drafted, just over half.

2. Contraction picks won't be eligible to be traded. You can pick a player and immediately trade him if you would like, but for the sake of time, and for the picks potentially getting confused with first year player draft picks, I'm going to say no.

3. Kansas City is moving to Detroit, Milwaukee is moving to New York 1, Toronto is joining the league as New York 1's rosters, and Dallas is joining the league, rosters TBD. I'll post which teams are where in the first post of this thread so no one gets confused.

4. I definitely will bring back the overall standings. It will start with 2018 MLB and the other sports will follow.

5. Thanks Chris for doing that with the contracted teams!

How does contraction work with players on expired contracts? Will they just not be eligible and just go to actual FA?

They're eligible to be drafted, but have to be extended before free agency starts.

Free agents should just be free agents.  Letting people draft free agents just alters the balance even more.

I disagree. If the previous owners weren't negligent, these players wouldn't have hit free agency in the first place. This only affects about 50 players, a handful of which are even draft worthy.

I wasn't here before, but it's also unfair if one of the 4 contracted teams did their extensions already, and the others didn't. I think it would be more damaging to the balance to let guys like Springer hit FA and get a ridiculous contract since that wouldn't normally happen in our league.

There's nothing more fair than free agency.  In fact I traded Springer to Toronto with the knowledge it was probable he'd become a free agent.

None of the teams did extensions but even if they had it wouldn't be unfair to teams that don't exist any more.

Anyway, I spent a good deal of time taking out all the free agents in the contraction lists so those will have to be re-done.

I honestly don't care enough so if you're passionate about expiring contracts going to free agency then we can do that. I wouldn't want to redo the contraction list anyways.

Cool.  How will we handle draft picks traded to/from contracted teams?

In 2018, picks traded to the contracted teams will be forfeited and unused. Picks received from those teams won't change and will be based on those teams final position.

I don't see any issues with 2019 so we don't have to worry about that.

Forfeited draft picks
2018 :SDG: 2nd (:PIT-NFL:)
2018 :BOS: 1st (:PIT:)

Extra picks
2018 :MEM: 2nd will be used by :PHI-NBA:
2017 :NSH-MILB: 2nd will be :OAK:

I'd prefer all players that were on the contracted teams to be available in a contraction draft. Vote is probably best way to settle it. All draft picks these teams had should be forfeited.

I posted a poll. It's not a huge rule so no need to debate it.

As for the picks, all picks they own as of now are forfeited, but picks they traded will still be part of the draft. It's only two extra 2nd rounders in our draft so it's not a big deal, plus there would need to be some compensation for stealing a pick away from a team, and this is the best way to do it.
