Who are your three favourite riders?
« on: January 18, 2018, 10:11:34 AM »
This game aside, who would you root for if you didn’t have team loyalties to the riders you’ve purchased. So, a completely open market.

Mine are:

Fernando Gaviria
Miguel Angel López
Michal Kwiatkowski

Luckily I have two of those in the main game this year as I let my heart rule my head.

Impossible question! I like Kwiato and Majka for bringing glory to my BooYah! hole country, Sagan and Dumoulin for staying down-to-earth despite their achievements, Gilbert and Contador for their heart and tactics, Voigt and Huzarski for the things they do off the bike, Moncoutie and those three gregarios we'll never know the names of for riding 100% clean :azn:

As a major Cobbled Classics and Ardennes fan, Michal Kwiatkowski and Sagan are my all around favorites.  For stage races and grand tours, I like Mr. "Hungry Like a Wolf" Uran Uran most, but Dan Martin isn't far behind.  There are lots of younguns that are starting to interest me though, like Gaviria, Roglic, Jungles, Alaphilipe, Dlamini, etc.

Contador and Boonen  :embarrassed:

I guess I take some years to grow some decent fanboyism on me. Now,apart the portuguese, maybe Sagan, Kwiatkowski and Nibali.

Jaakko Hänninen. Obviously. The most promising Finnish talent since Jukka Vastaranta! (http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/teamprofiles/2001/vastaranta01.shtml)
Edvald Boasson Hagen. I've always liked Eddy Boss.
Geraint Thomas. Geraint is funny lad and his E3 Harelbeke victory from 2015 was insane. I hope he still fully targets the classics at some point of his career.

My all time idol remains Frank Vandenbroucke. I will never have the same feelings for another cyclist as I had for him.
Perhaps in the future I could cheer for his godchild, Franklin Six. He is the son of frank's sister, and has the same style on his bike.
For the moment he seems not to have the same talent though ...

In today's peloton my favourite is probably Zdenek Stybar, because of his cyclo-cross history and because he is so nice and speaks dutch in such a cute way.
I like Adam Hansen, because of who he is next to the bike.
I like technically superskilled riders like sagan, and guys who can attack downhills like no one else. With the exception of froome's weird but scientifically proven way of going down. Nibali and samu sanchez are probably the best downhillers of the todays climbers. Cavendish seems to be an excellent downhiller too. And off course again sagan.
Would it be that bad of an idea to organise a downhill race on road? Why not a TT of 1 descent of mont ventoux f.e. in Tdf?  :embarrassed:
And since I have my own team sky's pinarello, and visited the service course several times I feel connected with some of them. De La Cruz, Halvorsen, Kiryienka, kwiat, Moscon, Rosa, Rowe, Stannard, Thomas, GOGOGO  :koolaid:
And off course our belgian pride: GVA, Gilbert, Naessen, Bakelants, ...

I prefer attacking riders who can actually win races so Dan Martin has always been a favourite.

I also have an affinity for riders who were once at the top but now have an underdog role so i cheered for Contador against Froome.

In the cobbled classics i tend to root for Stybar, not sure why and in the sprints Cavendish because you might as well pick someone and i think he gets a (mostly) unfair time of it from the media.

This is tough for me now.
I always had one absolute favorite and several dozen others I would also root for. I think last year my top-3 would have been Contador, Van der Poel, Pinot.

Now, I think:
MVDP
Pinot
Enric Mas

It depends, other candidates would be Dumoulin, Zakarin, Ganna, Felline, Stybar, Küng and probably several others that I'm forgetting now.
For me a rider has to have a mix of charisma and cycling skills, for example Ganna I've liked for a while even when his results were limited to track, I just love his personality, he is so cheeky.

    October 14, 2019, 02:01:28 AM
  • Brent: Same concept especially if you consider NFLC.  The NFL salary cap is the same as our $188.2M year.  The difference is RL football you have to pay offensive lineman and most teams carry 6-8 with left tackle being about the highest paid non QB position.  That was until recently, but they still get paid.  So if you pay your QB $40M/yr, your LT $15M/yr and the rest of your line a total of about $25-35M year, that could be $90M on 6-7 players.  You still have to field all of your skill positions and defense for the other $100M.

  • Yeagg: I should be better than a .500 team
    October 14, 2019, 02:02:00 AM
  • Brent: Yeah, I have a couple redraft leagues where I should be better than I am.
    October 14, 2019, 02:02:36 AM
  • Yeagg: Isn't that where drafting comes in handy
    October 14, 2019, 02:02:49 AM

  • indiansnation: i think its harder guessing what yound guys will produce in nfl than baseball
    October 14, 2019, 02:05:31 AM
  • Brent: The Cowboys got lucky with La'ell Colllins.  He was 1st round talent, but fell out of the draft to UDFA due to false allegations that he was cleared of. So they got one of if not the best OT from that draft for peanuts.  Eventually he will need to be paid.
    October 14, 2019, 02:06:28 AM
  • Brent: Yeah, the draft is huge and also hitting on UDFAs.  Teams have to develop and then keep their own talent or they'll go broke and end up in salary cap hell.
    October 14, 2019, 02:07:09 AM
  • Yeagg: So basically just like baseball
    October 14, 2019, 02:17:10 AM
  • indiansnation: yep nfl u gotta watch how much u pay look at browns they are going to have that problem in 2021 they have alot of good tallent thats going to need to get paid.
    October 14, 2019, 02:17:13 AM
  • Yeagg: And no way Brian. Baseball has 40 rounds and still most of those guys never even sniff the MLB
    October 14, 2019, 02:17:33 AM
  • Yeagg: More 1st round picks are bust than even play a full season
    October 14, 2019, 02:18:02 AM
  • Brent: They also have between now and then to figure out who will be resigned and who will be replaced and don't they still have quite a few 1st round picks between now and then?
    October 14, 2019, 02:24:21 AM
  • indiansnation: Hey if u have a top notch gm with a great scouting staff u can make any player u draft be great. Look at Boston their minors sick why is that because they suck at drafting. Know look at Tampa and indians and miami they have pretty dang good minors especially I diane look at who they had pitching this year bauer got traded, and they lost 2 of their sp most. Of the yr
