2017 summary of all leagues
« on: October 24, 2017, 11:12:20 AM »
Time to wrap it up. Winners, losers, curiosities:

UCI World Tour
With Pozzovivo and Albasini ageing like good wine, Kwiato winning left and right again, plus a solid year for Portuguese cycling, there could only be one winner! Congrats to Luis :Lampre:, who deservedly dominated the standings after half a decade in top-5 year after year! Second place is a bit too close too call (or I'm too lazy to manually implement the 8-riders-per-event rule, tomaito tomahto), but it's scary to think what would have happened if Froomdog had scored any points before July!

Incidentally, the winner in the points-per-$ competition among all riders paid above $30 is... and I kid you not... Sander Armee :o

Country Roads
I must admit I really like the scoring being relative. It means a lot of flip-flopping in the standings all the way to the last day! That being said, :BMC: Joel wins comfortably thanks to a mixture of proven scorers (GVA, Dan M), proud geezers (Berti, Chavanel), and new kids on the block (Mr. Greenroads, Daniel Martinez).

Rainbow Cup
Halfway through the season, :Vlaanderen: Davy and :RadioShack: myself were leading the Yates Family Feud. Then he went with Trentin and I went with Coquard, yay... In a late twist, Bryant almost stole the whole thing following a nice autumn from Bling and Wellens!

Fine Young Cannibals
For the longest time, we were all scoring below 200, but it was just silence before the storm as more and more giants were reaching their 2016 cap. Then, suddenly Davy embarrassed the rest of us. Chapeau!

Wall Street
Having recently been selected the best thing on the internet outside of google searches and cat videos, we're excited to continue denying our gambling addiction!

Quick Fixes
Will return in a much more interesting format, but this year it was still about picking the winner. Which most people didn't udnerstand. Which created ridiculous drafts like Davy's GVA-drafted-6th-gate or your truly's gimme-Froome-with-the-10th-pick. Plus an all-Dutch success in the Giro: :Vacansoleil: Martin & Major Tom (who really did take his protein pills and put his helmet on), :Lampre: Froomy Vuelta, and :Sky: Tom using the Kwiato-Albasini dynamic duo to clean up the Ardennes.

Invitational
Cancelled due to low interest.

What next?

Having now played this game for 5 years, I think I have come in the top 5 each season if I remember correctly (5th the past 3 years and 4th the one before that and 2nd in my debut season), just cant seem to get to that top.
At least I seem to be a model for consistency

FYI this weekend I was shocked to discovered at least 5 teams in the main game had a rider's score at zero and never reported it. (Two middle name changes and 4-5 of the usual "space after the name" bugs.)
I corrected the names, and the overall rankings suddenly changed in three instances. Including the 2nd place.

Firstly, it's kinda BooYah! ty in itself that some people don't care enough to monitor their own results. Not cool, guys...
Secondly, your lack of attention produced an unfair draft order.

Therefore, I decided to introduce a small point penalty for this lack of attention, which in turn lets us keep the results as announced originally.
Maybe that decision will make everybody care a bit more in the future.

Maybe move the sum column next to the rider name as part of the column freeze where it will be more visible?

  • indiansnation: u got a very good team yeagg
    October 14, 2019, 02:01:28 AM
  • Brent: Same concept especially if you consider NFLC.  The NFL salary cap is the same as our $188.2M year.  The difference is RL football you have to pay offensive lineman and most teams carry 6-8 with left tackle being about the highest paid non QB position.  That was until recently, but they still get paid.  So if you pay your QB $40M/yr, your LT $15M/yr and the rest of your line a total of about $25-35M year, that could be $90M on 6-7 players.  You still have to field all of your skill positions and defense for the other $100M.
    October 14, 2019, 02:01:46 AM
  • Yeagg: I should be better than a .500 team
    October 14, 2019, 02:02:00 AM
  • Brent: Yeah, I have a couple redraft leagues where I should be better than I am.
    October 14, 2019, 02:02:36 AM
  • Yeagg: Isn't that where drafting comes in handy
    October 14, 2019, 02:02:49 AM
  • Brent: Exactly
    October 14, 2019, 02:03:34 AM
  • Yeagg: I was referring to the cap space comment in case you didn't know
    October 14, 2019, 02:04:38 AM
  • indiansnation: i think its harder guessing what yound guys will produce in nfl than baseball
    October 14, 2019, 02:05:31 AM
  • Brent: The Cowboys got lucky with La'ell Colllins.  He was 1st round talent, but fell out of the draft to UDFA due to false allegations that he was cleared of. So they got one of if not the best OT from that draft for peanuts.  Eventually he will need to be paid.
    October 14, 2019, 02:06:28 AM
  • Brent: Yeah, the draft is huge and also hitting on UDFAs.  Teams have to develop and then keep their own talent or they'll go broke and end up in salary cap hell.
    October 14, 2019, 02:07:09 AM
  • Yeagg: So basically just like baseball
    October 14, 2019, 02:17:10 AM
  • indiansnation: yep nfl u gotta watch how much u pay look at browns they are going to have that problem in 2021 they have alot of good tallent thats going to need to get paid.
    October 14, 2019, 02:17:13 AM
  • Yeagg: And no way Brian. Baseball has 40 rounds and still most of those guys never even sniff the MLB
    October 14, 2019, 02:17:33 AM
  • Yeagg: More 1st round picks are bust than even play a full season
    October 14, 2019, 02:18:02 AM
  • Brent: They also have between now and then to figure out who will be resigned and who will be replaced and don't they still have quite a few 1st round picks between now and then?
    October 14, 2019, 02:24:21 AM
  • indiansnation: Hey if u have a top notch gm with a great scouting staff u can make any player u draft be great. Look at Boston their minors sick why is that because they suck at drafting. Know look at Tampa and indians and miami they have pretty dang good minors especially I diane look at who they had pitching this year bauer got traded, and they lost 2 of their sp most. Of the yr
