Is there any prospect extension deal in NHL.  Maybe something like the baseball specs?  I have seen it on other sites.  Thought I'd ask since I wasn't around for the first season of NHL.  It gives a better reason to hang onto young players.

No because the prospect contract only is 1 extra year from when they surpass their rookie status, meaning that the extension will not be that expensive anyways because they have less time to become a superstar. And if they are amazing by their 2nd year then they most likely deserve a huge contract.

Cut the FA time in NFL to 24 hours.

Why isn't all sports not done like this for releasing players. The way we have it now all four sports are different for releasing players,The rule in there for a 50% reduction if the player is picked up is kinda hard to track since rosters are not updated after every trade.I think it should be this way for all sports

Releasing Players Under Contract
All contracts are non-binding, you may release a player or coach at any time.  However, bonuses are given to each contract for the duration of the contract that will count against your salary cap.  They are as follows:

Player's yearly salary/amount of bonus each year:
$1.0m or less    = no bonus
$1.1m - $3.0m    = $500k
$3.1m - $5.0m    = $1.0m
$5.1m - $7.0m    = $2.0m
$7.1m - $10.0m   = $3.0m
$10.1m or higher = $4.0m

This is the way it is done in Football now but would like to see it implemented for every sport.IMO it is fair and easy to track

yeah no crap. That would of made it a lot easier for me in basketball, considering I was 10M over the cap out the gate and was not allowed any free drops. 50% of contract is a huge hit.....

I totally see what you guys are saying but I think that Anthony is trying to represent the sports close to the actual way they work.  The bonus structure in Football and no guaranteed contracts is similar to the NFL.  Contracts in the others sports obviously work differently.

This is just the same as the extension values, rookie contract values, etc.  He is just trying to represent each sport in a similar value as real life.  I like it.  But I have no problem switching if that is what the Commish wishes and what is best for the league.

Cheers!

Every contract in TT is guaranteed.I just think they should all reflect the same when you drop someone. The only problem i have is the wording in some about if someone picks up that said player in FA you only owe half the total for life of said contract,This is too hard to keep track of,if someone else picks that player up,could be a month down the line and who is going to remember that,When said contract was say 6 mil and someone picks him up and now you only owe 3m,that is 3m in cap space you could have but you may forget about it and you lose it,Anthony's good but he can't update after every trade to reflect that. One way makes it so you don't have to do that.

Each league has same set up for released players just like Football,Basketball is similar. You get half the salary if you drop someone to use in FA or what ever, you don't in baseball or Hockey, why not make them all the same all contracts here are guaranteed. You still have to pay a penalty which you should.

Ok I see what your saying.  I would totally agree on that.  It's hard to track for sure.

This was actually brought up a while back and the league voted to keep the rules different. - http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=35577.0#.UHNFV03A-Vo (I realize we have a few different owners now)

Right now no one has any cap hit on released players in baseball so that is not an issue. No one in hockey has been picked up that was dropped by another team.
Basketball and Football do not have that rule in place.

Jonathans Lakers were the exception and the only team over cap for NBA, but he managed it well and did pretty well and has some cap space for FA this year.

If you guys think that there are enough people that would want a universal drop rule I will open up a thread for discussion about it.
