Rockies will pay $1m of Wright's salary in 2012 in a cash exchange.

I will drop Darren O'day to comply with the roster limits $0.5M (2011) once this trade goes through.

I do this deal to obviously clear cap for now and in the future. Sanchez is having a breakout season and him being dirt cheap is a major plus. He is signed thru 2013 at $0.5M and he can only improve. Wright has not done much for me this year, but is still a stud nonetheless. The small market Rocks needs to clear cap and this is only the beginning. Ramirez was the price I pay to clear off this much cap. Milledge was just a throw-in to allow this deal to come together.

We do this trade to continue to improve our future rotation. It's hard to part with Gaby, but we are getting Wright as compensation. We thank the Rox for agreeing to take Milledge with his 3.5 mil to make this deal possible.

This trade is borderline for me, surprisingly because of Milledge's salary for 2012.  Ramirez is a good arm, but has dealt with injury issues his whole career and some say it is from his mechanics.  There is a minor issue with his shoulder now, but who knows.  He certainly has had a good year and promoted himself into the upper echelon (Top 50 - 75 arms) in the minor leagues. 

The Rockies do not stand to save a great deal of $ in 2012, but 2013 and beyond they will, the $4m in 2012 will help as well.  This year Gaby has outperformed Wright on a PPG basis, last year Wright got 7 more PPG than Gaby did.  The additional factor is that Wright has a back injury and those tend to linger. 

The primary advantage in this deal is that Gaby can be signed to a prospect extension and therefore get the discount, in 2011, 2012, or 2013. 

I will approve the deal.  I believe that we need to give Reid a little bit of leeway to see what he does with the Rockies.

After conversing with another member of the TC, I will also approve this trade and give Reid the benefit of the doubt. Wright is obviously the far superior player when he is on his game. Both players are relatively the same age, and I believe both have reached their ceilings in terms of talent. In a league such as this one money does have to be considered along with talent. IMO the inclusion of Ramirez puts the deal in favor of Hank, but Milledge is still young enough that he may be able to prove himself useful once again.
