Best Farm Systems
« on: February 11, 2010, 04:51:17 PM »
Let's do a Baseball Prospectus like review of everyone's farms and pick out the best of the best!

My picks..

FIRST TIER
Dodgers :LAD: - M.J.'s team will be ridiculous in a few years

SECOND TIER
Cardinals :STL: - Plenty of redbirds, Rangers, Orioles, and a Rondon in this
Reds :CIN: - A load of CI and Tyler Matzek
A's :OAK:  - Maybin, Smoak, Powell, Cecil, Doolittle
White Sox :CHW: Feliz, Wood, Minor, Dominguez

No Brewers huh Colby?

My take:

1. Brewers: Scary talent, good thing they are not in my division.
2. Dodgers: I am not sure what happened last year, but were there no one else paying attention to the minor leagues?
3. Rangers: I like the pitchers they grabbed this year
4. Rays: Besides Colome, seemed to have inherited all the good prospects of the Rays system
5. A's/Pirates/Reds....can't pick one, you guys all win

1. Dodgers - Morrison, Brown, Fredrich, Wallace, Stanton, Niese, Tillman, Arrieta
2. Royals - Moose tacos, Myers, Santana, Hosmer, Parker, Crow, Montgomery
3. Braves - Heyward, Freeman, Alonso, Bourjos, Stubbs
4. Brewers - Still has a lot of high ceiling talent left
5. Reds - Ike Davis, Chisenhall, Matzek, Oliver, Britton and a million CIs
6. Rays - Jennings, Davis, Hellickson, Moore

I hadn't joined the league yet  :)

I'll agree with the consensus here that LA has an absolutely loaded farm system.  Here are my rankings based on total talent (not just the high-ceiling guys, and omitting the Brewers since I'm obviously high on the guys I've acquired):

LAD
KC
PIT
STL
TB

The Brewers should be in my 2nd tier as well.  Last year, the league wasn't as active when it first started, so some teams got off to a head start.  M.J. went farm crazy for a while there.

April Farm Rankings
1) :LAD: - [ A] - M.J.'s persistance to spend on the farm in 2009 will pay off.
2) :MIL: - [ A] -
3) :TEX: - [ A] - The Rangers system wasn't this good when Roy inherited it.
4) :KC: - [ A] - Freddy is playing it like a KC GM should.
5) :TB: - [ A-] - Michael had a gift of a farm handed to him in Tampa.
6) :CIN: - [ A-] -
7) :WAS: - [ A-] - Recent dumps of Zimmerman and Dunn surround Strasburg with quality prospects.
8) :COL: - [ B+] -
9) :CHC: - [ B] - This team is a farm with very few major leaguers.  Something will pan out for sure.
10) :OAK: - [ B] - One of the many NL teams in a good spot at all levels.
10) :SEA: - [ B] -
12) :STL: - [ B] -
12) :TOR: - [ B] -
12) :NYM: - [ B] -
15) :PIT: - [ B-] - Solid farm system takes a big hit with Tabata and company gone in Z-man deal.
15) :ATL: - [ B-] -
17) :CLE: - [ C+] -
17) :SF: - [ C+] -
17) :CHW: - [ C+] -
20) :BOS: - [ C] -
21) :PHI: - [ C] - Phillies lack MLB-ready prospects.
21) :HOU: - [ C] -
21) :SD: - [ C] -
24) :ARZ: - [ D] -
24) :FL: - [ D] -
26) :NYY: - [ D] -
26) :LAA: - [ D] - Once a highly touted farm headed by Jake, this has become a mine field.
26) :BAL: - [ D] - Orioles will surely shoot up these rankings in the coming months.
26) :DET: - [ D] -
30) :MIN: - [ F] - With nearly everyone at the majors these days, who is left?

#3 in the Power-Rankings, #2 on the Farm, starting with a mid-market MLB team that finished sub .500 last year... just sayin  8-)

I am liking the rankings, a while ago I started a farm system check and I think im going to finish it. I use a trusted source that I have that Ranks players with grades of A-C. I believe that the rankings and how the researchers came upon them are very smart as they compare them to past players as well as many other circumstances. Ill try to finish it up and give my findings.

I am going to calm down with all of my moves... hopefully you guys can't blame a girl for trying.   Hopefully, my farm rankings improve next time around!

I think my farm should be under some reconsideration.  I have added several guys they have yet to break into the show, along with multiple guys on prospect contracts w/o a contract year in my starting lineup.
