Edmonton - Montreal
« on: July 14, 2011, 08:16:49 PM »
Edmonton receives -Tomas Plekanec, Alex Auld, 1st. Rd. #9

Montreal receives - Ales Hemsky, Nikolai Khabibulin, 3rd Rd. #1

Was looking for another 1st. rd. pick and needed some help @ center. Hate losing Hemsky, I like him, and Khabibulin will get Montreal some starts/points.

Pleasure trading with Montreal/Whomp  :toast:

This one is a little boarderline for me, i dunno! Hemsky and Plecks are pretty comparible and Auld and Khabi are pretty close in back-up roles for OTT and EDM respectivley, but the 9th overall pick is gonna be a bigtime top line player seems like its a little far in EDM favor. I dunno just my opinion. Not a terrible trade by any means but when u think of the 9th pick as a Shane Doan type player it seems a hefty price for Hemsky and Khabi and a 3rd rder

This is way lopsided.  I'd take Khabi over Auld but not by much and I might take Plekanec over Hemsky with his injury problems.  I know you guys have positional needs and that's always a consideration but bottom line the Habs could get a crapload more for that 1st round pick.  On top of that if my math is right the Habs are taking on more payroll here.

If you look at long term it is good for getting rid of a long term contract for a short term rise in costs.
Everyone judges talent differently, I do not want to be married to Plekanec.

Please re-evaluate.

I think if a 2nd rounder was going to EDM it would be a better deal IMO, the first rounder, at 9, is goingt o give you an absolute bonafide superstar.

I couldnt imagin the trade as something like:

Doan, Plecks,Auld

for

Hemsky, Khabi and maybe a line role player

sorry to use Doan but thats just where I see a 9th overall type of player, somewhere mid 300 FP's per season.

I completely understand the contract issue, but at the same time  its still too much of an overpayment in my eyes

Has anybody taken a look at fantrax to see whats available at each position, how much deeper can a draft pool get.  For the record, Doan, in Dynasty Fantrax is listed w/256 fantasy points not mid 300's. Outside of 2 goalies, there is not a single person above 300. Auld had 64/pts. and is only projected for 10-15 gms this year, he would be taking nothing but space on my roster. Khabibulin had 148/pts, and will get more starts.  Also, outside of the availability of this draft pool, I'd hardly consider Doan a 9th overall pick in any league. IMO.  All respects bean  :toast:

I agree that Doan isn't a 300 point player.  Realistically the 9th pick should either be a very good goalie or a good scoring skater worth somewhere around 200-250 points a year.  At pick 41 the goalie selection will be very scarce and for skaters you're starting to look at sleepers and 3rd line forwards.  I would venture a guess that the difference in production should be somewhere around 100 points between these two picks.  I don't see that Montreal is getting that much value back.  That's just my opinion.  I know positional needs are important right now especially with the vague position eligibility rules.

I haven't vetoed yet, I'd like to see what the rest of the TC thinks.

I see what ur saying and I was just throwing Doans name out there. Yes this draft is VERY deep. Every position has stars available and is why I figured the 9th was a high compensation, I mean i dont know how the other guys are drafting, but I have 2 picks before the 9th pick and when I look at who other may take and who i may take the players left at spot 9 will be incredible players which I think will put this trade lop-sided. That's why i think a 2nd rounder would be more fair compensation in this specific trade.

Yes Auld wont get much in OTT but he will get more in OTT then he did in MTL I think, and Khabi will get some, yes, but less than last year I think as they will try to ride Dybnyk IMO. I dunno I think think it's a little one sided because of that pick, just one man's opinion lol, everyone else in the TC might see fair!

Also, just FYI I was just pullin numbers out of my bunm or Doan's 300+ fp's lol, shot in the dark haha.

No Harm Winter, always good to hear the other sides opinion!!
