Are we going to tackle sign and trades too? Again my stand is if anyone is re-signed they shouldn't be able to be traded for 60 days, as per standard FA rules.

Good point.  I agree... That can be added in the signing section.  Let's make that point number five.

I think the better suggestion would be June 1st as was oiginally suggested by Dan.  It makes more sense than 60 days, because it would force owners to work the higher contracts into the following season's salary cap.

I agree with Roy, I just remember getting a lot of opposition when it was brought up originally. Maybe an earlier date, but during the season, like May 1

I am not trying to appease Dan, but he has a point about the PE.  This is a good thing for us to discuss.  If normal offseasons, the books move and the PE changes then why should it be any different for the final offseason of a prospect contract?  I am just looking for consistency there.  Our rules will make PE kick in after the contract ends if it was done in the last season anyways, so there is no reason a GM should wait until after the season for the PE.  This just gives GMs one last chance to sign these guys, but at a higher price for players with MV higher than $6.5m ($4m minimum divided by 60% factor rounded to nearest $500k).

There is a simple reason to wait and it's called MONEY.  What competing team leaves 10m+ on the books to re-sign high end prospects during the year?  Think about it.  No offense to Dan, but I have a hard time believing he would have re-signed Hamilton prior to the end of the season since it would have involved roughly an 10.3m cap hit (18m X 60% less 0.5m) even if the rule was in place at the time.  The Rockies and the Royals are in the same boat now with Bruce and Joyce respectively.  Only the large market teams would be able to take advantage of this option.

I would have found a way if it saved me 7 million dollars, and it was an option at the time. I cleared millions to resign him at market value. I did it with Upton, and I plan on doing it with Beckham and Rasmus... It is a choice. Kind of like the way we have to clear space for the draft.

Howe could have resigned Bruce at the start of the season for 6.5 mil... he did not, Bruce blew up and became more expensive. He was 7 mil under the cap before Bruce's hot streak. The money was there, he chose not to.

We are also voting on having extensions kick in the year after the contract expires hence my statement.

1) Provisional vote for yes. I'd change it to a team cannot exceed future cap by more than 30%. I understand the team for small markets to make championship runs. But some sort of mechanisms should be in place to ensure these teams dont end up in financial ruin.

4) Yes to window for re-signing, but, cannot trade prior to and after resigning.

3) Renewal would overwrite the old contract. This keeps it simple and avoids all the messy scenarios. However, renewal can have a maximum length of 6 years.
