No because it to hard to determine value and fairness in trades.

If you let your players go unsigned beyond the 2nd extension then they should be released to free-agency where the free market will determine their value. This creates a deeper free-agent pool which allows the lower seeded teams a better chance to rebuild on the fly.

This is what I believe to, it will weaken the free agency pool, we won't see an above average player hit the market because it is a cheap add for another team if they can afford the re-sign.

On other hand, the real NHL does allow this as well and they still have a decent free agency pool year-to-year.

Wish I had the patience to hold out. Every year I move pending FA's early so that I get something for them. That why I end up moving players like Faulk cheaper than I should.

I believe that GMs should be able to move their own assets if they are able to get value of some sort. If a Gm was able to acquire that players he should be allowed to move him if wanted. We try to mimic lifelike NHL scenarios and this would be one.

I, for one, would have moved pending FAs earlier at the last trade deadline if I knew we were not going to be able to move them in the off season.

I would think that the outcome of this vote would be effective for next season....not now. I also agree that GM's should be able to trade their assets, right up until the trade deadline and not starting again until contracts have rolled over.

Hanging on to a cheap expiring contract for the sake of a run at the championship is a cost of being competitive. Generally only strong teams will lose those players to free-agency. This isn't bad for the over-all health of the league.

This is essentially the same as having no restrictions at all. Unless you are stipulating here that the return for an FA could only be Picks or another FA?
