Oilers/Kings Trade
« on: November 06, 2014, 10:14:41 PM »
:EDM: trades:
Jeff Skinner, $3.6m (2015-16)
Petri Kontiola, N/C (9 games)

for

:LAK: trades
Daniel Sedin, $7.0m (2017-18)
1st Round Pick (EDM)

Edmonton does this to get better right now. Skinner is off and to be honest I am impatient sometimes. I take on a pretty bad contract but I have the cap space. Due to the difference in age and cap, I needed to have something more back and that's where my first comes back. I also send a prospect who was suppose to have an NHL job this summer but lost. All in all I am sad to see Skinner go who has been with me for years! Be kind to him Gilly.  :toast:

I accept...Skinner long term will be better for my team than Daniel..younger, cheaper and perfect for my plan!

I keep all my sweet nectar first rounders for whatever I decide to do with them, so losing this one is no biggie but great for Drewy since he lost his Skinner

Thanks big guy we finally got a deal done!!

I'm not big on Kontiola and when Skinner isn't concussed he's on a very bad team. Daniel's contract looks ugly but he's producing at 2PPG. Moving Sedin makes sense for LA but I hate that he had to pay a 1st rounder to do it. The return is no sure thing.

The 1st jumps out at me but I'll let Gilly gamble.

I can see the 1st being necessary if the other player LA is receiving is worth anything, but I don't see Kontiola being valuable. So in my mind, it looks like Sedin and 1st for Skinner and 4.4m in cap. A player producing 2ppg is definitely worth taking 4.4m in cap for. Honstly, I feel that Skinner for Sedin with their current contracts is a fair deal; Gilly still takes a gamble on a young player with a ton of potential but a rich concussion history while Drew gets his stud to help keep him in the front of the pack. But to send a 1st to Drew as well seems waaaaaaay too lopsided for my taste.

Maybe if Edmonton sent a pick back it would even it out a bit?

Drew is still getting the best player in the deal, so even if Drew included his 2nd, I feel that he should not be receiving a first at all. Skinner and 4.4M in cap for Sedin seems more then fair in my eyes. Sedin is a proven stud with multiple seasons where he produces 2ppg, while Skinner is a very promising player with a concussion history.

I see what your saying. My understanding is the pick is to off-set the age difference but also feel a 1st is too much. The Sedin contract is horrible IMO. If Edmonton sent a decent pick back I would approve it.

People just have a difference in opinion on value of picks.

I don't see it as that far off from an approval.

And I understand your point. But you asked me a question and I simply gave my point of view too.

If Drew were to include a 2nd in the deal along with the current package, the lopsided feeling this deal gives me would not be as overwhelming, but I am still of the opinion that Drew should not be receiving a first in a deal where he is receiving the best player.

Now if the player Drew is receiving is significantly worse then the player Gilly is getting back, I can understand the inclusion of the first. But with Drew's current position in the standings as opposed to Gilly's current position, 4.4M to upgrade a player seems like a fair price to pay.

If Drew really wants compensation for taking on 4.4M in cap, Gilly has a 5th round pick that I feel would be a slight overpayment, but the deal would definitely be passable.

Maybe we should have discussed this via PM?

I value your opinion and was just trying to get a better understanding of your view.

The reason we see it differently is because I think Skinner and Sedin are close as far as value goes. Almost equal IMO

Anyways... I do agree that this is a :veto: as well because the first pick tilts the deal to much in favor of the Oilers.
