2015 Thoughts
« on: October 15, 2014, 04:28:51 PM »
1. UCI Calendar is released some time in October i think; re-visit which races we include (no need to spend too much time on this).

2. See who's back for next year (hopefully we can replace serial inactives).

3. Possible rule changes: (a) No trades after start of Giro (there weren't any but just to maintain integrity really), (b) Neo-pro draft (team option on 2nd round picks would be nice), (c) 20% discount when bidding on riders you had on team last year (could be implemented now or for 2016).

Yup, I'll create the new spreadsheet as soon as the calendar is known. Please send me the link if you see it!

2. See who's back for next year (hopefully we can replace serial inactives).

I'm on it.

(a) No trades after start of Giro (there weren't any but just to maintain integrity really)

For simplicity and transparency, no trades at all?

(b) Neo-pro draft

Starts October 20 (just after Japan Cup & Chrono des Nations, who cares about Hainan :P) or November 14. Free agency too.
(The reason is selfish: I will be travelling and unable to manage things during the first half of November.)
Which one is smarter?

team option on 2nd round picks would be nice), (c) 20% discount when bidding on riders you had on team last year (could be implemented now or for 2016).

Not a fan. Both add a bit of complexity while rewarding smart owners. As sad as it sounds, we should never reward smart owners (thus the current draft order), because the difference in expertise is already quite visible, and I believe we can only fill the league and keep it enjoyable for everyone if it stays very simple and doesn't take out of contention the casual fans who don't necessarily follow the peloton too religiously.

I've only played for one season but the game doesn't seem broken so it can't need to many changes.

Re trades: maybe just until the end of December. Obviosly there would be hardly any(probably none) but it would give teams a chance to move but a couple of teams maybe able to take advantage.

I think trades should remain until the start of the season to give those a chance to get riders off there rosters for whatever reason, such as need to free up money etc.

The option to take your 2nd round draft pick for two years if you want rather than just one is something I would like

For simplicity and transparency, no trades at all? Up until start of season seems fine; maybe have a trade block topic.

Draft starts October 20 or November 14. Free agency too. Which one is smarter? I'd prefer Nov 14, time to recruit, time to research. When you know which teams are free let me know and i'll help with recruiting.

There's a very strong correlation between activity and scoring (which isn't necessary given that autos mean you can't lose too many points). Ultimately taking the league seriously reaps rewards, with those managers thus remaining active in the league for the full year as their team is doing well. Basically we need more good players (which is where recruiting comes in); either people already with good cycling knowledge or those willing to invest a bit of time (it really doesn't take too much effort). 'Casual' fans will never do well in this game and will inevitably lose interest before quitting (NBAFO). I agree that some level of parity is preferable, although technically the effects of each year's draft order can be magnified by team options on the 2nd year and in time by the 20% discount. Just my $00.2

I'm definitely back. I need this game to help me get through the off-season.   :toast:

I'm impatient to get going :P so the October 20th start would be fine with me, but will everything be ready by then? November 14th seems like the sensible choice.
I don't have much of an opinion on trades, so I'll happily go with the flow whatever is decided. I don't like the idea of a discount when bidding on previously owned riders though.

the game doesn't seem broken so it can't need to many changes.

No appetite for discounts it seems which is fine; gives everyone an equal chance at free agents.

With Neo's maybe award 2 year contracts as defaults and allow free drops (in addition to one veteran rider).

Also i think we should have unlimited riders for the WCITT and WCRR; trade teams have no restrictions in real life.

Still not a fan. It's a simple lottery between riders 90% of us have never heard of, and let's keep it that way. Btw options would slaughter the following year's market.

Sure.

    October 14, 2019, 02:01:28 AM
  • Brent: Same concept especially if you consider NFLC.  The NFL salary cap is the same as our $188.2M year.  The difference is RL football you have to pay offensive lineman and most teams carry 6-8 with left tackle being about the highest paid non QB position.  That was until recently, but they still get paid.  So if you pay your QB $40M/yr, your LT $15M/yr and the rest of your line a total of about $25-35M year, that could be $90M on 6-7 players.  You still have to field all of your skill positions and defense for the other $100M.

    October 14, 2019, 02:05:31 AM
  • Brent: The Cowboys got lucky with La'ell Colllins.  He was 1st round talent, but fell out of the draft to UDFA due to false allegations that he was cleared of. So they got one of if not the best OT from that draft for peanuts.  Eventually he will need to be paid.
    October 14, 2019, 02:06:28 AM
  • Brent: Yeah, the draft is huge and also hitting on UDFAs.  Teams have to develop and then keep their own talent or they'll go broke and end up in salary cap hell.
    October 14, 2019, 02:07:09 AM
  • Yeagg: So basically just like baseball
    October 14, 2019, 02:17:10 AM

    October 14, 2019, 02:18:02 AM

  • indiansnation: Hey if u have a top notch gm with a great scouting staff u can make any player u draft be great. Look at Boston their minors sick why is that because they suck at drafting. Know look at Tampa and indians and miami they have pretty dang good minors especially I diane look at who they had pitching this year bauer got traded, and they lost 2 of their sp most. Of the yr
