So, in this case:

OTT is over cap by 14+ mil and approached me about trading ~14mil in salary (G Luongo, LW Vanek and D Clark) for ~2.5 mil in salary (LW Benn, G Crawford and C Marchand) to get closer to the cap.  We went back and forth a few times across our trading blocks and came up with what that mix of players.

Would that suffice as reasoning (to be confirmed by both teams of course)?

Caps do the deal to diversify the team a bit. Add a defenseman to a very weak D. Immediate upgrade.

I am ok with this trade

As Boston ststed, I was well over the cap and needed to get rid of some salary, with Luongo and Vanek being high earners i needed to shed this salary. Approached BOSTON and wanted to acquire some youth with low salary. recieved 3 good young talents for 2 proven players.

worked for both teams as BOS had cap space.
