I see both sides here but I believe going down to three will be better for the league. It may hurt some teams off the start but I think the quality of goalies each team has will be much more even in future years. Teams with three starters and great goaltending prospects will have to make a decision on who to keep or to trade youth to improve their roster. Also having a three goalie limit eliminates the four goalie rotation that isn't based on skill but instead based on skill from year to year. If the schedule works out for your team with four goalies you could get a maximum of 14 goalie starts in one week. This isn't really a discussion thread but if we changed the goalie starts instead of the goalie limit then teams would have to be more strategic with their goalies then simply having an overload of goaltender points/starts
I can definitely testify to this, as the weeks that Berra was able to get more starts then Ramo usually meant that I was able to win my match up without too much drama. Dropping the goalie limit to three will not only hamper a teams ability to do this, but it will also make it harder for teams to keep goalie pairs as well. I also feel that giving the extra challenge of forcing teams to make decisions on what talent to keep (just like teams have to do in the real NHL) will add that extra bit of skill missing in this already close league.
Looks like we will decrease the limit of goalies to 3.
We will have to figure out a date that we drop to 3. Example: before Free Agency or before the start of next season.
