The 2018/19 Salary Cap will be increased modestly from $81.1m to $81.4m.
For anyone that's new, we adjust the cap on a yearly basis based on how the NHL cap fluctuates. We do this in conjunction with a factor that compares our team's average cap space to actual NHL average cap space to keep our structure relative to the league. Player extension values are also increase annually to stay relative, though this has not been done yet - will be done within a couple weeks. See below for more information on how cap is calculated:
***the yearly salary cap will be updated using the following:
Current year NHL cap/Prior year NHL cap = X
X(DNHL cap) = Y
DNHL average cap space - NHL average cap space = Z
Y - Z = New salary cap
***Use http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/cap/ for NHL cap info.
***Adjust for cap floor (NHL set at $19m in 16/17, $19.6m in 17/18) - any teams in excess of the cap floor are adjusted TO the cap floor for equation purposes.
***The maximum yearly decrease $2m. This is the most the cap will decrease from year to year regardless of the results of this equation.
