Pirates make moves with their young Bucs
« on: July 27, 2016, 01:21:16 AM »
The Buccos have granted contract extensions to several players in their young core.

MI Gyorko, Jedd, $0.5m (P-2016), 45th MI this year, 43rd last year, which means he must be paid at least $2m per year.  Buccos are giving him that for three years starting next year, so he will finish his $500k salary this year and then start the $2.0m (2019) contract.

MI Profar, Jurickson, $0.5m (P-2016), 64th MI this year, unranked last year, so giving him a $500k 2-year extension into 2018.

OF Conforto, Michael, $0.5m (P-n/a) hit his rookie threshold in 2015, so he should be P-2018
SP May, Trevor, $0.5m (P-n/a) should now be P-2019
SP Blair, Aaron, $0.5m (P-n/a) should now be P-2019
SP Conley, Adam, $0.5m (P-n/a) should now be P-2019
SP-RP Dean, Pat, $0.5m (P-n/a) can now be P-2019

Promote RP Buchter, Ryan, $0.5m (P-n/a) to MLB roster, he should now be P-2019

RP Treinen, Blake, $0.5m (P-n/a) should be P-2017

There were conflicting rules that nobody, including myself, pick up on when the rules were revised. The consensus was that we had been using the trade deadline as the demarcation point to no longer use 2014 season when giving extensions.
I'll set this aside until Monday 8/1

The cutoff date was defined in regards to an extension request for Giancarlo Stanton by RyanJames5 earlier in the season.

Since I have been in FGM, we have always used the trade deadline as our cutoff point for Extensions and percentages related to releasing a player under contract.  The following explanation appears in our Rules regarding Extensions:

"Contract extensions are based on looking up the player's highest salary per ranking by each eligible position in both the current season and the last season.  If an extension is done during the season and before the trade deadline, then the previous TWO seasons and the current season must be looked at.  In the off-season, the last two seasons will be used."

Although the dates listed do not reflect this doctrine, we need to follow the established precedent and change the wording (dates) to reflect what we have been doing in regards to the Trade Deadline.  This is not an arbitrary change, it is a reaffirmation of what has become standard practice in FGM.

We have been consistent in regards to the trading deadline being the cutoff point.  I don't think we missed it, we just need to clarify the section listing the seasons.
