I just think it will be sad to see a year long contest end with lame prize.  It's my fault.  Cally - yes - if it were you I would be having the same conversation.  I think most around here who have been around would vouch for that.

Haha, I know I know I trust that you would. Just stirring the pot haha.

I think making the resign discount tradeable is the easiest way to keep the reward value similar year to year. That way an owner can choose to use it themselves or trade it to someone else who will find value in it. Other options that could be considered is instead of making it a percentage of the resign value to make it a just a $1m discount off of a resign. That way you don't see the year to year fluctuations that we have seen so far (Snuge saved $2.1m off Crosby last year while the previous year I saved $0.8m off Jake Allen).

I could get on board with this suggestions as well. Fixed amount.
As Rob pointed out, a 1-year deal that's a big dollar value could be impacted a lot with a FA discount percentage.

I personally think making it trade-able is the best solution.  It adds value for both Ottawa and the rest of the league, not to mention the intrigue involved with others going after that discount.  I don't really like the idea of it carrying over.  And I really don't like the FA idea.  Especially since it could be used on a massive 1 year deal.

If we do make it trade-able then it can be used on any contract that's already been extended (and currently unprocessed), so that those teams that already posted extensions aren't left out of this.
Hmm...I'm swinging in the breeze.

And what about a 4th option and make the prize a free-play in our dynasty $$ playoff pool. Take the prize right out of the regular season game and give the winner a free ride....oh wait, we don't have a $$ play-off pool. Rob, you better get on that!

Yea that would have to happen like right now eh?  What's the best option?  Fantrax?  I've never done one before.

Realistically we're probably talking about next year but if we have the numbers we can still hold a draft a week into the playoffs no problem. I just don't know anything about Fantrax and if there's enough interest or not.

The best option would be a live draft, but getting any number of us around at the same time would be a hell of a task.  A slow draft (4 hours per pick?) would take, maybe, 2-3 days?  So we launch at week 2 of the playoffs? Ehh...

That's all kinda rushed for a $$ event.  Maybe we do this right for next year.  And plan a live draft months in advance.  And open up voice comm's on Discord for trash talk - that would be fun as hell.

We could do a freebee this year as a trial run. Set the picks at 1 hour per so if GM's aren't available they'll just have to lean on auto-draft. It'll be chaos but fun! I'd bet we get half the GM's and so if we go 12-14 players deep we'd be through it in a couple days.

I'm going to go ahead and make the discount trade-able.   :judge:
