New Ownership Guidelines
« on: December 20, 2013, 07:27:04 PM »
I think it's important to have guidelines for new owners.  Particularly owners that do not have previous experience in ProFSL Leagues.  So I'd like the league's thoughts on the following provisions I'd like to consider implementing.  The reasoning behind the proposals listed is that far too often when I join a league I'm inundated with what I'd call phishing.  It's opportunistic owners trying to gauge my knowledge level with poor trade offers.  It's bad for the league really and while I don't like to have rules protecting owners from themselves, I think this kind of provision is very limited and would be helpful to protect franchises and the league.

1) New ownership without previous ProFSL league experience will be restricted from conducting transactions for 72 hours upon admission to the league.

2) Any new owner that has a trade vetoed within the first 30 days of ownership will be required to post players on the trade block for a period of 48 hours before any trade can be posted.

Fair enough. You need 72 hours to study the constitution, spreadsheets, historic points scored etc before you can properly valuate trade values!

Agreed - on joining my first league in Profsl (not this one) the sharks  :disco: were circling from day one..

However rather then placing a 72hr blanket ban on trading, maybe instead, to flip the onus around, there should be a restriction on other owners contacting the new owner (say for a week)? This would give the new owner breathing space, but would give them the opportunity to initiate trades should they be comfortable/actively want to do so directly upon joining the league.

Appreciate that there will be ways around this - however I think the 72 hr proposal places a bit of an unfair, albeit limited, handcuff on new owenrs…

Just an idea

I like it.  I don't see 72 hours being too long and restrictive.  72 hours is nothing if you are going to be with the league long-term.

The only problem with something like this is enforcement.  There's no way to enforce it, no way to really verify the contact for certain, and the only way rules have any teeth are with penalties.  Kind of messy all around to go with that kind of approach in my view.
