The Big East's seven departing Catholic schools are expected to start their own league next season and will keep the Big East Conference name, sources told ESPN's Brett McMurphy, Andy Katz and Dana O'Neil.

Joining the Catholic 7 schools -- DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, and Villanova -- in the new "Big East" this fall will be Xavier and Butler, sources said.

Creighton has emerged as the favorite to become the 10th team, and would also join next season, according to sources.

This would be a very good hoops conference and one with plenty of exciting games to watch.

After matching their all-time highest ranking of #2 last week, the Gonzaga Bulldogs men's basketball team moved up to the top spot after a week that saw them survive at BYU and beat San Diego at home by 29 on senior night.  This, coupled with Indiana being upset at Minnesota, and the Bulldogs secured 51 of the 65 1st place votes.

Indiana drops to second as Duke, Kansas and Georgetown round out the top 5.

At 10-2 and with a one game lead over second place VCU, the St Louis Billikens look in prime position to take the regular season Atlantic 10 title after a 65-61 victory over #15 Butler Friday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. 

St. Louis was led by Dwayne Evans with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.  Roosevelt Jones posted 13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 4 blocks in a losing effort for Butler.

St. Louis visits George Washington on Sunday, while Butler hits the road to take on #24 VCU
