2019 Calendar
« on: October 11, 2018, 08:05:50 AM »
We need to add Gran Piemonte next year, it’s an HC. Wasn’t on the calendar in 2017 which explains this year’s oversight.

Austria has been a 2.1 for the last couple of years.

According to PCS:

- No Dubai Tour (merged with Abu Dhabi);
- Bredene Koksijde Classic in as an HC;
- Yorkshire goes HC;
- Tour of Slovenia goes HC;

I would also sneak in Deutschland Tour. It's likely that they grow to HC and it's a big race, with a field better than some WT races.

Once I went deeper, I saw a lot of races folding.

(Unfortunately the autumn calendar is a question mark as usual, so we'll have to assume they all just continue.)

It would be nice to identify the largest 1.1/2.1 events and get some in, so that the total number of races in the game stays constant. My candidates:

A) The No-Brainers

Hammer Stavanger & Limburg (2.1)

B) The Why-Nots

Hammer Hong Kong (2.1, I'm a tad concerned about the field)

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (2.1)

Poels 2016, Nairo 2017, 2018:

1.VALVERDE Alejandro 16:14:53
2.SÁNCHEZ Luis León0:14
3.FUGLSANG Jakob0:26
4.YATES Adam0:37
5.HERRADA Jesús0:48
6.ROGLIČ Primož0:49
7.BILBAO Pello0:54
8.KREUZIGER Roman0:57

Gran Premio Miguel Indurain (1.1)

Ion Izagirre 2016, Simon Yates 2017, 2018:

1.VALVERDE Alejandro4:41:18
2.VERONA Carlos0:20
3.SCHULTZ Nick1:04
4.PRADES Eduard1:16
5.BETANCUR Carlos,,
6.SOLER Marc1:19
7.ZAKARIN Ilnur1:30
8.CALMEJANE Lilian1:43
9.ŠPILAK Simon,,

Gran Premio Città di Lugano (1.1, 1.HC before)

Previously won by Kübler, Coppi x3, Anquetil x7, Poulidor, Merckx, Altig, Ocaña, Zoetemelk, Bettini. 2018:

1.PERNSTEINER Hermann4:53:05
2.SBARAGLI Kristian0:32
3.GASPAROTTO Enrico1:33
4.ULISSI Diego1:40
5.VISCONTI Giovanni,,
6.POZZOVIVO Domenico,,
7.CICCONE Giulio1:57

Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge (1.1)

1st edition. Should be a blast?

Deutschland Tour (as argued above)

Colombia 2.1 (2.1)

2nd edition. 2018:

1.BERNAL Egan 20:49:03
2.QUINTANA Nairo0:08
3.URÁN Rigoberto0:11
4.HENAO Sergio0:12
5.MARTÍNEZ Daniel Felipe0:43
6.SOSA Iván Ramiro0:45
7.ALAPHILIPPE Julian0:50

Thoughts?

All is maybe a bit much? I think in principle I have space for 6 of the above-mentioned 9.

Update: since nobody else chipped in, I had to make the decision myself.

Apart from the WC TTT, none of the autumn races seem cancelled according to this and this.

For the sake of consistency, I'm throwing in all three Hammer Series.

Further, say hello to :Germany: Deutschland & Valencia, both having attracted 11 WT teams and very strong Pro Conti too, even though the latter owes the amazing field more to the fact that everybody needs some early racing kilometres in those legs.

And Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge - what could possibly go wrong???

Missing out: Indurain (only :Katusha: :Movistar: :Orica: :Europcar: showed up), Lugano (only Bahrain & UAE showed up), Colombia (a slightly glorified NC, only 3-4 teams with motivated Colombians showed up).
