How are players handled once they have been released (more specifically, players with non-minimum contracts)? Are other teams free to bid on them, starting at $0.5M? Is the minimum bid somehow based on their previous contract? Must they remain free-agents for a certain period of time before another team can place a bid?
I suggest we're careful with how this rule is handled. It could happen that a good player is dropped to buy out a bad contract, and the 72-hour window will be even more important to ensure that all teams are aware of the bidding.
They are treated just like every other free agent. However, under the official rules... You may not bid on a player that you have released for a period of 30 days. If you resign a player, their original contract is restored.

Cleveland also drop: Westbrook, Jake Reyes, Anthony

Trade is now official, and both teams are not over the cap after the trade. Rosters have been updated.

If the clock has not already expired... Brewers $2.0M
Due to the 72 hour rule, the bid was open till at least 10:20 PM EST last night, so you made it by 24 minutes.

Pirates are looking to add prospects as always. We're caught in a situation where we would like to bring in some more A and AA players as we have 3 and 4 at each level, respectively. However, trading major league starters opens up holes in our roster - especially for position players. Early next season, it's realistic to see Walker and Joyce take starting roles, but with Sanchez and Wilson on the trade block, some MI help will needed.
Also on the block is Chad Gaudin who throws a lot of strikeouts.
