We had this before as you could waive any player at any time. Even at 15m cap in the minors, we could have a team with two high salary players in the minors. We found that there was too much burying of bad contracts in the minors so this is now being made so you can only do it in the last year to prevent the big names from sitting in the minors for too long. If GMs really made a bad contract they can always buy the player out. For example you said Redden and how he was buried in the minors. His cap hit is 6.5m until 2013-14. At our buyout value it would be 4.3m which is a savings of 2.2m which could get you a decent replacement for Redden but that is your fault for signing Redden to a huge contract. We could see something with Lidstrom getting signed to a 4 year contract and then being waived, although we do have a rule against that as well that if a player retires they must have they contract paid out 50% of remaining contract.
My feeling is that it didn't work last time around and things seem to be working this time around, so I don't feel there is a need for a change yet, other than GMs wanting to burying contracts in the minors.
Didn't mean to be re-inventing the wheel. Buy-out is indeed a workable option. Thanks.

Rules/Waivers/1st Paragraph Stipulation: Only players in the last year of their contract can be sent down to the minors. ______________
I'd like to discuss the possibility of lifting this restriction. Reasoning as follows:
- The NHL makes no such stipulation. ex. Wade Redden - GM's that made poor decisions at the entry draft are still handcuffed by too many large contracts. ex. Dallas - The cap number for the minor league roster provides a means to limit over-use. ______________
There's another way to limit over-use of Waivers that is currently used by the NHL. The requirement to pay half a players salary if they are claimed by another team upon recall from the minors. I believe this amendment would:
- Tie in with Drew's proposal to find a way to free up players like Timmonen and Phaneuf. - Provide a further breaking mechanism on using Waivers.
Please discuss.

Its only Cubs and Cho left I believe as Drew & Tony voted. Gilly and I are involved in the deal and Winter isn't in the league anymore. Unless SlackJack took over that spot when he took the Pred's as he already voted to approve.
I voted to approve this trade because I felt it was made in good faith. I think that Bean gets the better of the deal but I'm withholding judgement on how uneven it may be. I have not taken a spot on the Trade Committee and would prefer that my vote not be used as the tie-breaker. If I am asked to weigh-in with further opinion however, I will do so.

Is there a minimum bid for players that are still unsigned UFA's at the beginning of free agency on July 15th?

I confirm and approve of this deal. I think Desjardins is a gem but I'm stacked in net and the cap space that comes my way will help facilitate other trades as I move forward. Lots of GM's need cap and I think I'm proving more than willing to deal. What comes around goes around.
Thanks again Norrya!

The pick doesnt really mean much. Its 71 overall which is a mid 3rd round NHL pick.
The pick doesn't mean much to me either. I'll drop it just so this wasn't a waste of time for everyone. Seriously, please remove Anaheim's 4th Rounder from the trade.

And as a member of the trade commitee, it is not my job to gage how happy a team is with their deal, but to gage how fair I feel the deal is. A lot of this game involves feelings and predictions, so obviously we will not know who won which deal until the end of the season. But with the evidence presented in front of me, I do not feel the deal is fair. I believe talbot is very much on an upswing, and will produce a fair amount of points for his cap hit versus berglund who is barely making what I feel is solid for his cap.
If you want to keep this in mind, be my guess lol... but with how busy my life can get, do not be surprised if I do not remember.
Just trying to have some fun. As I said I'll respect whatever decision the trade committee makes and opt to drop the pick rather than undo all the work we did to make the trade. Peace.
