Franchise NHL: Completed Transactions / Re: Contracts and FA bidding
« on: June 27, 2012, 05:56:34 PM »
yes since any bid from 17M to 21M will all end up the same at 5.5M 4 years it is pointless to bid in that range.

this first part I looked at ppg for C, RW and D.
C = the top 20 scores range from 3.0 - 5.6 ppg, 21-40 was 2.6 - 3.0 ppg and 41-60 was 2.1 - 2.6 ppg
RW = the top 20 scores range from 3.2 - 4.3 ppg, 21-40 was 2.7 - 3.2 ppg and 41-60 was 2.0 - 2.7 ppg
D = the top 20 scores range from 2.0 - 3.5 ppg, 21-40 was 1.6 - 2.0 ppg and 41-60 was 1.4 - 1.7 ppg

I also looked at what rank the D were when compared to all skaters.
There were only 5 in the top 100. #22, 48, 53, 89, 91.
from 100-160 there are 12. #101, 105, 106, 110, 119, 125, 131, 140, 147, 150, 158, 160.

These numbers would sugest that the range for D should start around 3.5M but that is a really big change so making the top pay 5.0M might be the better change.

I'm not sure.  The problem with that method is we're going to inflate the value of average forwards.  Middle of the road guys who cost 1-2m now will be MUCH more expensive.  I'm thinking a straightup reduction for D-men would be better.

I was planning on opening it up for discussion again after the extension deadline.  I know many of you want to know what's going to happen before you make decisions for 12/13.  Unfortunately I don't want to make the decision until after extensions.  I can tell you that I definitely want the reduction for D-men and will support the change.  Like most other rule changes the process will be democratic.  From the feedback on the subject so far I would guess there will be a reduction.  I know that's not a lot to go on, but it is what it is, for now.

Other rule changes I've been contemplating:
-Discount for prospect contract extensions
-Discount on extensions for DNHL award winners.  For example, the best LW award winner gets one LW extension with a 20% reduction. Of course this wouldn't apply for 11/12 award winners.
I dont like the discount for the award winners. This will only give the teams with the best players an advantage over the others.

discount for the prospect extensions is good idea because a young prospect can have 1 good year then a bad year and you really dont know what kind of player he is going to be. I have this problem with Jeff Skinner in another league, his rookie year was real good then his second year ws not so good so I have to resign him for 6.1M for 4 years or release him. the problem is if I resign him and it turns out his second year is what he does for the 4 years then it hurs my ability to improve my team because his cap number is too high.

I think redoing the dmen pay scale is a good idea and would sugest basing it on fantasy point per game as compared to the forwards. I will do some calculations and see what it looks like.

Franchise NHL: Completed Transactions / Re: Contracts and FA bidding
« on: June 27, 2012, 10:00:55 AM »
Do not recall the bidding increments that you have posted for this league. Only reference is increasing bid by 1 mil after bidding has reached 10 mil. Can you post a link to this please & thanks.
I was just doing the math but the 1 mil increase is another factor. My point is since our contracts dont give us the options for the number of years we should be bidding with the one year contract value. So if you bid 20 mil you can not fit that bid in our contract limits. it would be 6.666M for 3 years or 5M for 4 years, both are invalid.

Franchise NHL: Completed Transactions / Contracts and FA bidding
« on: June 26, 2012, 09:28:59 PM »
Maximum and Minimum Years
<= $1.4m, 2 years
$1.5m - $5.4m, 3 years
$5.5m - $7.9m, 4 years
>=$8m, 5 years (the overall limit)
I didnt realize we didnt have a choice in the number of years of the contract. just so everyone knows when FA bidding starts, because FA is bid by total contract value we can only bid in the following ranges.
.4M - 2.8M in .2M incriments
4.5M - 16.2M in .3M incriments
22M - 31.6M in .4M incriments
40M and higher in .5M incriments
if someone bids 40.1M and someone else bids 40.4M they are really the same contract, 8.1M for 5 years.

  • Jwalkerjr88: Idk if anyone remembers the 2021 class but it was weak on offense outside or the top 10-15. I dont regret the deal just learned and move on. As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
