The Cardinals make this trade to acquire one of the top pitchers in Baseball. As soon as I saw Fernandez on the block I knew I had to take a shot at acquiring him and was able to make it work. I hated to deal Sal Perez as he's also one of the top players in the game at his position, on a great contract, but I have depth at catcher and felt it was worth it. I'm also a big Os fan so trading Gausman was tough for me, but when I'm able to replace him with Fernandez its worth it.

St. Louis makes this trade to cut a little bit more salary and help build up my bullpen.  Beyond those reasons I think Trumbo will work out very well in Baltimore!
