Franchise GM: GM & Team News / Pirates take a new direction
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:46:08 PM »
The plan to expand the payroll has been rushed forward a year earlier than expected thanks to my solid trades, excellent prospecting, and good free agent pickups.  Bob Nutting, majority owner of the Buccos, has vowed to put more "smart money" into the Pirates for pursuing free agents and building the farm.

With that said, as the GM of one of the worst franchises in baseball, I plan to go after a marquee free agent in the outfield market.  It may not be a Matt Holliday or one of the best ones, but it will be a young, solid player to complement Jones and McCutchen.

The Pirates will be competing with the Brewers in 2010! :bacon: :PIT:

Franchise GM: Completed Transactions / Pirates extend Adam Jones' contract
« on: February 09, 2010, 05:58:20 PM »
I am locking down talent now while it's on the cheap.

Adam Jones (61st ranked OF in 209, 100th ranked OF in 2008) has agreed to sign a $7.5m total contract that pays him $2.5m through 2012.

Franchise GM: Completed Transactions / Pirates trade for Cubs' Jose Reyes
« on: February 09, 2010, 05:17:39 PM »
I feel that the Buccos are close to contention.  This deal also gives the Cubs some high level prospects, depth, draft picks, and a restored farm system.

Pirates trade:
C Sanchez, Tony, $0.5m (P-n/a) + $2.5m bonus
CI Waring, Brandon, $0.5m (2011)
MI Allen, Brandon, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Joyce, Matt, $0.5m (P-2011)
P Thompson, Brad, $0.5m (2010)
P Torres, Carlos, $0.5m (P-n/a)
2-4 PIT
2-22 PIT (from ATL)
2-25 PIT (from CIN from LAA)

Cubs trade:
MI Reyes, Jose, $6m (2011)
OF Cunningham, Aaron, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Franchise GM: Invalid Transactions / Entry Draft Idea
« on: February 01, 2010, 09:56:30 AM »
Our current system involves doing some type of roto draft (via chat applet with pre-rankings) here at MLFB in the fall.  It may be better to go with a system that supports our slow bid format.  I propose an auction bank for an entry draft where the amount in your bank is based on where you finished the prior year.

Within this proposal, I am also proposing adding 5 spots per year to the EDR until it hits 20 spots in 2012 or 2013.
