Backyard NHL: Archives / Parity... Another discussion I think we need
« on: July 17, 2015, 10:04:35 AM »
The reason two people are voting for expansion is for parity. I believe that if there are players who believe that the only way we can obtain parity in the league is by an expansion draft, we need to take a further look into the rules and see what we can do before that happens.

Thinking about expansion, I went through my current roster to see who would protect and who would I would make available to be picked, the decisions seemed too easy. I don't think expansion is the answer to parity. I think we need to look at upping the cost of extensions again.

Using my team again, I lost Chris Kunitz and Kevin Klein to free agency. I was able to retain Peter Holland, Matt Belesky, Ryan Callahan, Pavel Datsyuk, Jimmy Hayes (who I traded), Kevan Miller, Mike Weber, and Corey Crawford and I still had 7m in cap with only 3 roster spots to fill and a minor system that is experiencing good growth. I have yet to miss the play-offs in this league, and only once I have failed to make the semi-finals.

Chicago has won every cup since the league opened.
Anaheim has failed once to make the cup final.

I am not sure how much of this we can contribute to good managership and how much we can contribute to low roster turnover. If Tony and Tyler can list their loses to free agency, that would help the conversation. But I think this is a conversation we need to start because people are looking towards expansion as a means to parity, and my initial run through is leaning towards expansion having very little effect on parity.

Backyard NHL: Completed Transactions / Flyers Bruins deal
« on: June 23, 2015, 10:30:02 AM »
Flyers send
Jimmy Hayes
Antti raanta

Boston sends
Thatcher demko
Boston 2nd

We are very happy with the return. With mrazek and jaskin rising as fast as they did, that made raanta and Hayes, two very solid young players, expendable, so we moved them to improve the future. with Crawford, Howard, and mrazek, we can wait till demko is seasoned enough to make it to the NHL. And the 2nd will give us a very solid spec in what looks to be a very deep draft.

Thanks for the quick deal, rob.

I did some math because something did not look right, and I found that my cap numbers were wrong. My minors space is 3.1m and my main teams space is 0.9m. I also only have 24 players in my minors before all of these moves are made.

My moves!

Send the following players to the Phantoms:
Victor Rask, $0.6m (2016-17)
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, $0.9m (2015-16)
Brett Bellemore, $0.8m (2014-15)
Dalton Prout, $0.9m (2014-15)
Petr Mrazek, $0.5m (2015-16)

(puts my minor cap over by 0.6m and puts my main cap at 1.4m)

Take the following players off of IR:
Martin Hanzal, $3.6m (2016-17)
Roman Polak, $2.0m (2015-16)
Kevin Klein, $1.5m (2014-15)

(cap remains the same)

Call the following player to the main team:
Kevan Miller, $1.0m (2014-15) $0.8m (2015-16)

(this puts my minor cap at 0.4m and my main cap at 0.4m)

I should have a couple more once I figure them out. But this should put me at even with cap, ir players, and the phantoms.

  • Rhino7: @Daddy, thanks for what you said lol. It was the ultimate challenge to beat JWalkerjr88 last season, I wanted my path to go through him so it makes my title run that much better! I just wanted to get to the SB and figured at that point anything can happen and lucky for me, my boys had enough left to take out BAB. Live is the most challenging league I’m in and most fun, so thanks for what you all do to make it that way.

  • Jwalkerjr88: You did well Rhino. I appreciate the battle. The loss didnt sting more because i was undefeated, i know fully that being undefeated in the reg season doesnt mean anything in the playoffs. When rhino and i played this past season, the better team won.

  • Daddy: I hate losing. Especially when its the biggest moments. I hate my teams i root for to lose. I really hate for the teams i built myself to lose.
  • Jwalkerjr88: I dont like losing ever. But a loss is a loss. Im pissed either way
    Yesterday at 11:09:47 PM
  • Braves155: Are you also a perfectionist in your everyday life?
  • Daddy: Im not a perfectionist in my dynasty life. I make all kinds of bad trades and make all kinds of mistakes.
  • Jwalkerjr88: If i traded all my picks to a division rival in a rebuild and he beat me in the title game with Desmond ridder or lose undefeated. Its all a loss at the end of the day
    Yesterday at 11:11:08 PM
  • Daddy: Nobody is right all the time. Its the beauty of sports.

  • Daddy: It helps just to fill up your roster and sign good contracts. If you dont know crap but keep a full roster and manage finances, you will kick ass.
  • Daddy: I wasnt a genius signing Kuechel. I was just filling an empty spot. I got rewarded with the best pitcher in baseball for a few seasons.
  • Braves155: I love it when one of your Dynasty teams you've been rebuilding starts showing up and being competitive early in the season. Especially in baseball
    Yesterday at 11:19:42 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I'm decent at building, but I need to get better st winning.  I did win an offsite 32-team football league, it only took me 1.5 season to rebuild and win.
  • Daddy: Thats what you should be doing @Brent. LIVE sharpens those skills so you can go elsewhere and dominate unsuspecting leagues.
