Title: 2017 calendar brainstorming
Post by: Garfield on October 28, 2016, 02:46:36 PM
UCI WorldTour

Some people suggest I should include all HC. To me, that's a horrible idea. In the likes of Hainan or Langkawi - apart from your usual Palini&Guardini's - exactly one COMPLETELY RANDOM decent rider usually goes there and wins 5 stages. That's Walscheid in Hainan 2016, or that one time Rabo needed an ego boost: http://cqranking.com/men/asp/gen/tour.asp?tourid=2503

So the question is where to draw the line. Thus this thread.

Current 2017 calendar:

RC,CR,WSC - WT+WC+EC only

QF - like this year

FYC

Thoughts?

Personally I don't have anything against all th HC races. Often youth is given a chance in the Asian ones.

Plus Andalusia and Algarve, although these may be HC next year anyway.

Edit: yes they are and a couple of others too, details here, so these should be added.

I think European HC races are OK. Perhaps together wih Dubai and Oman. Not sure if the American races are interesting enough. No .1 races

I think it is fine as it is.

Please keep California and Utah on the list! It's a big deal here in the States!

Happy just to add those 4 new European HCs then. Leave the Asian ones and keep the US races. Cool by me.

Here is my official proposal, please please please PRETTY PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP check for bugs ASAP:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x0SOLrswTiG7pjiEkLXtdzj5MpknRSvDgXhUx60pjnc/edit#gid=1796025982

New WT races in, 3 new European HC races in, EC ITT&RR in, Utah still in, Langkawi & Hainan & Qinghai still out, Colorado still in but will not count if it returns as .1, Nobili out, PT shockingly out, Eurométropole out, Münsterland out, Bayern still in as a place-holder - to be replaced with that-one-stupid-race-I-forgot if needed, Austria still in since those dudes say it's HC again: http://www.velowire.com/UCIcyclingcalendar/class/3/2-hc.html

Can anybody remember any of those races people complained during this season for being excluded-but-already-HC or included-but-already-.1?

Good link, thanks!

Happy to oblige :toth:

I think it is fine as it is.

I wish. Unfortunately, there is no such thing. The calendar keeps changing violently IRL.
Problem is, I hate editing the calendar after November 1, and pretty much always refuse to do so after January 1.

Looking good Daniel.

Just changed the date of Lugano and KBK to 26th.

The VC was in red too instead of the VaA. Changed.

Would it be worth highlighting the WT races given there are a load of new ones?

Thanks for the checks!

I guess it doesn't really have a huge significance, but hey, why not. Added a yellowish background to WT races.

Please show me one link that says they will be HC next year.
http://www.velowire.com/calendar/combinedsearch.php seems to think otherwise.

It doesn't show them at all, along with many other late season races.

UCI official is best to use but their calendar their only runs to 1.10.2017 currently.

You're right, there seems to be a rather annoying early October cut-off all over the internet right now. Let's keep our eyes open, and the first one with any link confirming/denying any of those races posts here.

Would it just be worth saying that if they are HC classified then they will be in the programme?

Paris Tours and Munsterland added.

Japan Cup seems likely to be added at some point (25 straight editions).

Alright then, added Eurometr, Sparkassen, Paris-Tours, that idiotic WT Guangxi, and Japan Cup.

There is also a new HC in South Africa mid-October. Should we keep that one on the persona-non-grata list together with all those Hainans and Langkawis until we see if anybody treats it seriously?

Should something come up, we always have the Deutschland Tour placeholder.

The spreadsheet seems ready now. Propagated all changes to all team sheets, results, and team ranking.
