Holyyyyyyy crap!!! 10m for a back up. What's the world coming too

sept5-12: ben bishop FA bid comments split from the player's bidding thread. there are plenty of good comments here + we don't want to clutter the original bidding thread.

Wow. I leave for a long weekend, come back expecting some goalies to be floating around and BOOM... $50m for a guy that is a back-up on a sub-par team with a good prospect youngster in waiting in the wings? JEEZ!

Not to mention Victor Fasth... A 29-year old rookie on a 1-year contract who is a backup to a workhorse of a starting goaltender... And who could be the next Jonas Gustavsson, for over 5m per year?

Guess I'm rolling with one starting goalie haha, these contracts are insane :(

With 7 G on your roster, I am sure you needed 1 more.. and bishop will be dealt for wing help. Do you really think OTT was keeping him?

I get it now Jonathan, because you had a really really bad team you loved the fact a bonus of talent was available to a team with tons of money.  Don't be bashful, you can say you liked how it helped you come even close to being a meaningful team.

LOL .... Ben Bishop will be a solid starter in the NHL, book-it.  I saw almost all three years of the guys college career, live, and he is so good he got bored in college, you could just tell.

yeah, this is a high bid... but then again, some ppl bid up Cory Schneider last off season to the tune of 8m (now he looks poised to be the starter if Gillis can just move Bobby Lu) and someone bid up Craig Anderson to 10m and he'll continue to have a good team around him in OTT.

Bishop should be really good in the near future.

I'm not sure you could say I have "seven" ... Yes they're there in numbers, but I have one NHL goalie, haha. The others are prospects. Lack and one of the COL goalies should make it down the road, the others are still unclear.
But yes, adding an NHL goalie would have helped I think, seems goalies get more points in this league than players, and I have a lot of cap. But I'm not going to spend 5-10m for a backup at this point in this franchise's state.

Seeing that the Sens "apparently" want Lehner in the minors for another full season, I think Bishop would be backing up Anderson this year though. And they're also competing against LA and VAN for goaltending trades, with Bernier and Luongo on the blocks.
Obviously Bishop's price would be (should be anyways) a lot lower than the other 2 guys - and really he's competing against Bernier, since Luongo is older and a proven guy that is either going to a contender to help them ASAP, or just back home to Florida to be with his fam.
Either way, it seems like the goalie trade market is busy... That usually never happens!

Any chance OTT puts Anderson on the trade market and goes with Bishop/Lehner as their goalies though?? Could also be a scenario, especially with Anderson's low cap hit.

....With the goalie bids going on, the question becomes: Why would any team ever let a goalie walk to FA???

Seems more sensible to just retain them and if you really don't want him for some reason, trade him! Seems like it's easier to attain skaters via FA than goalies...

Add Thomas to the trade market, IRL.

The tragedy of losing Bishop the way the Bruins did.  His extension would have been maybe 6m?  LOL

I doubt guys would sign a $10 million dollar contract in a paid league. But it's fun to watch the fireworks.
