Ottawa is pleased to announce a trade with new :NYI: GM. Senators send red hot scoring prospect

C - Mika Zibanejad (2011: 1/6 - 9 Games)

In return for, Islanders send over a defenseman due to receive a sizable raise starting in 2012-13

Niklas Kronwall, $3.0m (2011-2012) - Expires 8/4/2012 23 or 21  ext 5.7 / 4yrs

We like Kronwall's potential upside with Lidstrom's retirement and understand the injury risk with him and the new big cap hit we'll take on. Even though there was the possibility of added Nick via Free agency we wanted to ensure Nick joined our team for the upcoming season.

Parting with Zibby is tough as he'll be a force when he joins the parent club in a top 6 role, but we see the addition of Nick as a way to speed up our rebuilding process.

:iatp: appears to work for both sides. :NYI: clear cap, get something for a pending FA and land Zibanejad who's a top ranked skilled prospect. :OTT: adds scoring on the blueline now for their rebuild.

looks balanced.
both teams win now + down the road.

I approve, part of the re-build process.  his extension was going to be too costly for me so win win.
