I have been invited to several leagues lately and there is one thing that I cant understand with most of the leagues I have looked at. They are running 20-30 teams with 30 player rosters , Active positions 3 center, 3 lw, 3 rw, 6 d and 2 Goalies. Is it just me or does this setup always end up being a goalie hoard that makes Goalies so valuable it is nearly impossible to even trade for one unless your willing to give up your left nut.
Most of the leagues are trying to mimic the NHL so wouldn't the more rational setup be 4/4/4, 6D and 1 G active a night?
Disclaimer** not complaining about the setup in Dynasty or trying to belittle any other leagues just making discussion.

I think the 2 goalie setup works in 20 team leagues as long as goalie points aren't ridiculous. There's so many goalie "tandems" in the NHL that play 60/40 type splits it makes it easy to field goalies in a 20 team format. Some backups are more valuable than some starters. And teams can get away with rotating multiple backups to make up for a lack of starters. It certainly adds to goalie value, but goalies can mean everything to a teams success in the NHL so adding to their fantasy value, to a certain extent, is fine with me.
When it comes to 30 team leagues I think it's a little overboard. But, it really depends on the point structure.

11F, 1U, 5D and 1G I think is the closest to the real thing. I agree most leagues would be closer if it was just one active G but every league has its differences, good or bad. I do have to say that if I had that second goalie I would be fighting for the championship.

The idea that some backups are better than some starters is actually to my point. I like the strategy of having to choose who to start when you have 2 guys starting on the same night. Do you play the backup that has a favorable match-up or do you go with quick on a night that they play Vancouver. i like the luck of the draw or the gamble.
