Post by: NickF on July 31, 2012, 02:31:10 AM
Giants Trade:
OF Ibanez, Raul, $2m (2013)
CI Jones, Chipper, $3.5m (2013)
X-CI Jones, Chipper, Cash exchanged on Contract 2012, $1.5m in 2013
SP Vogelsong, Ryan, $0.5m (2012)

Braves trade:
OF Gomez, Carlos, $2m (2013)
P Kelly, Joe, $0.5m (2012)
MI Cowart, Kaleb, $0.5m (P-n/a)
CI-OF Austin, Tyler, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Gray, Sonny, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Oswalt, Roy, $3.5m (2014)
X-SP Oswalt, Roy, Cash exchanged on Contract 2012, $1.5m in 2013

braves do this trade to hopefully help make a playoff push this year (we were devestated when morrison was put on DL)... we give up some good youth, but we are going to take the risk... i hate losing gomez the most since he's a promising young OF, but i gotta take action now

thanks ernie  :toast:

Giants confirm.

Giants are getting some young talent that will hopefully help in the future.  Didn't really want to give up Vogelsong, but it was going to be tough to re-sign and still fill the holes on my team.  Getting Oswalt helps me control my salary cap.  I also get to remove $2.0 million in 2013 by trading a retiring Chipper Jones.

I ask the TC to approve this trade.

Just noticed this, the cash exchange of $1.5m on Roy Oswalt's contract should be 2012, not 2013.  This will make the 2012 salaries match.

I have no idea where this is from:

X-CI Jones, Chipper, Cash exchanged on Contract 2012, $1.5m in 2013

From this deal (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=58862.msg312480#msg312480) , it appears that there is 3.5M that is paid by TOR. There is no cash exchange in 2013 for Chipper Jones.

Can both parties please confirm that the only cash exchange on Jones is 3.5M in 2012?

Also, Jones' -3.5 credit that is on :CIN:'s roster will be removed. Dan, any objections to this?

Giants agreed to pay $1.5 of Chipper's salary in 2013.  The Braves agreed to pay the remaining $2.0m in 2013 since he is retiring.

Hope this solves the mystery.

X-SP Oswalt, Roy, Cash exchanged on Contract 2012, $1.5m in 2012

A further clarification on this trade.

Total Contracts for the current season do not match and would cause the Giants to go over the salary cap.  Braves total is $6.0m and the Giants total is $7.5m.  In order to make it work, the Braves agreed to pay $1.5m of Roy Oswalt's contract in 2012.  Giants will pay all of Oswalt's salary in 2013.   Additionally, since Chipper Jones is retiring, the Giants agreed to pay $1.5m of his 2013 salary.  That is the Cash Exchange I listed.  There is no cash exchange from any previous years for Chipper.  The Braves are to pay $2.0m of Chipper's 2013 salary.

This should clear up any misunderstanding.  Again, sorry for any confusion.

Giants need to drop a player.

Giants drop:

OF Ramirez, Manny, $1.5m (2012)
Salary cap obligation for 2012 is $1.0m

This will also get my roster to the legal limit.
