If a player's contract year states (p-2012), it means their contract expires at the end of that season.
For example, if Gabriel Landeskog's contract stated: "Gabriel Landeskog, $0.2m (p-2012)," his contract would be expired on August 4th, 2012 - the night the new league year begins and the eve of Free Agency.
