INDIANS trade Asdrubal Cabrera,Rickie Weeks,Carlos Marmol,Chris Archer,Alex Torres,Tony Wolters,
4th round draft pick first year draft 2012 Cleveland for Joey Votto
-
The INdians have agreed to this deal as we trade SS asdrubal cabrera for Votto also lose some prospects fpr a proven MVP
-
I Accept
I'm an owner who doesn't want to putt all his eggs in 1 basket.
Whenever a team depends for a great deal on 1 player i always keep my fingers crossed that he doesn't injure himself.
In fantasy i tend to spread this risk with my teams.
I'd rather have 3 $10M players than 1 $20M player.
I understand Votto is the nr 1 fantasy player at the moment, but that's gonna show in his price later on when i need to extend him.
So i had some choices to make.
Either
1.keep him and ride him till his contract ends,
2.keep him and extend him[probably around $20M per year] or
3.trade him.
I choose the 3rd option.
I wanted to get multiple pieces for him if i could get it.
Indians made me an offer i just couldn't refuse.
With Cabrera and Weeks i solidify my MI for the upcoming years.
Players who have had a bad start this season but are proven nonetheless.
Marmol gives me 1 more RP/C option, which is always valuable.
Archer and Torres are 2 of the Rays top pitching prospects.
We all know the Rays know there pitching.
Probably mid rotation starters in the future[or atleast top relievers]
Getting them now when their price is low is what every dynasty GM wants for their team.
Wolters is a top 5 Indians prospect that will probably make a fine MI in the future.
This together with also a 4th round pick made this an easy choice for me.
It will weaken me somewhat now,but will strenghten me a lot in the future.
Thanks to Indians for hard but fair negotiations.

After reading all about the trade
:iatp:
-
This trade, as far as I can tell, puts Cincinnati over the 40 man roster limit.
-
IF/When the trade is approved,i will of course adjust my roster.
But you can't expect me to do this before a trade is even approved right?
That would be ....well foolish.
-
What would your transaction be if this trade is approved? It can be contingent upon the approval here.
-
I approve pending corresponding transactions to make the roster legal.
-
After trade approval the Reds will make the following transactions to comply with league rules.
Asdrubal Cabrera will take the place of Joey Votto on the Reds 40 man roster.
Daryl Thompson will be placed on irrevocable waivers with the purpose of placing him in the Reds minors to make room for Carlos Marmol
Jordan Smith will be placed on irrevocable waivers with the purpose of placing him in the Reds minors to make room for Rickie Weeks.
Chris Archer,Alex Torres and Tony Wolters will go straight to the Reds minors.
With these transactions i will comply with league rules.
-
Chris Archer & Alex Torres are both on the Indians 40 man, therefore they have to go on yours too.
-
There is no rule that says that this is mandatory.
Check the latest constitution please.
Nothing about where traded players Must go.
So sorry but no they don't.
-
The intent of the league is to reflect MLB rules and CBA when possible and practical in a fantasy sports setting. In MLB, players on 40 man rosters may not be removed from the 40 man roster via trade, without going through waivers. Otherwise, it would cause havoc for players; we'd end up having somebody who has 20 years of service time be sent to the minors in a trade.
As per the 1st page of the constitution:
"This is the league constitution, which should resolve any issues that may arise. Any issues unresolved by this constitution will be resolved by the Commissioner, who shall make his/her rulings based on Major League Baseball rules. This is a constantly evolving document that changes to meet the needs of the league."
Based on this section, the MLB rule prevails. The next revision of the constitution will explicitly state this rule.
-
Fair enough.
I accept the League Commish's ruling in this matter.
However i want it to be noted that these kind of situations should have been made clear for all owners before we make a trade.
I'm clearly at a disadvantage when i make a trade where the rules change all of a sudden.
But as i said before I accept the ruling.
Also i like it to be noted that in the event such a situation occurs the owners in question will be notified of the situation.
I as new owner had no clue what was happening or what i did wrong.
There was no way of knowing for me that something was wrong when A.there was no such rule and B.nobody notifies me that something was wrong in the first place. The trade was just sitting there for days, without a peep. Not Cool.
The league office has dropped the ball there in my opinion.
The Reds additionally put on irrevocable waivers the following players to make room for Chris Archer and Alex Torres on their 40 man roster.
Carlos Fisher and Daniel Herrera

I'm sorry if you feel that way, but I do not see this as a rule change. It's a standard MLB rule. ldsjayhawk's notification was also within the 48 hour review period.
If there are any other rules that you would like clarification on, please feel free to ask. I honestly did not forsee somebody interpreting the constitution to allow for players to be demoted via trade when there was nothing stating that could be done. With that being said, I'm sure there are other rules that I did not think need to be explicitly stated.
As always, I'm always open to suggestions. We don't have a league office or a board of commissioners in this league. It's a communal effort with 30 people that help keep this league running.
-
FYI, I've split the discussions about rule changes into a new topic on the main AFB forum.

Is this trade approved to go ahead and process in fantrax? If so I will take care of it if needed.
-
Yes, it's approved. If you could, that would be great. Thanks.
-
The NL side has been taken care of. I am assuming Tony Wolters is still headed to a minor league team, I did not add him to the roster.
This also makes the Reds roster illegal at this point unless a correction is made.
