The Giants and Rays have struck a deal.
The Giants give: Ryan Vogelsong
Santiago Casilla
Aubrey Huff
Huff salary ($10 mil) for 2012
The Rays give: Michael Pineda
Jackie Bradley, Jr.
With this trade, the Rays benefit this year in it's run for the roses! Vogelsong is a quality starter, Casilla is the Giants closer this year with Brian Wilson out, and Huff is 1B/OF eligible. Huff is struggling this year, thus the Giants willing to pay his salary to open a spot on it's 40 man roster.
The Giants receive a predicted top of the rotation starter in Pineda, with inherit risk due to his recent shoulder surgery. All claim the surgery was a success, and he will be ready to go at the start of 2013. Bradley is an exciting OF prospect for the future, an area the Giants sorely need to improve. He's the #7 Boston prospect per Fangraphs before his first full season. Vogelsong and Huff were in their last year of contract with the Giants, and Wilson returning next spring should move Casilla back to the setup role, and has only 2012 and 2013 remaining on his contract.
This trade is a win/win for both teams. It was great negotiating with Player, and was certainly thorough exploration through each others' rosters.

The Rays agree to this deal after entertaining and excruciating negotiation with a very capable Giants front office. Our reasoning is simply our desire to win immediately. Losing Pineda and Bradley hurts, but neither will be contributing in 2012. Pineda will be a future frontline starter, but his shoulder woes definitely downgraded him from probably high-end SP1 to low-end SP1 or SP2. Bradley is a solid OF prospect, but we still have a strong core in our minors on the hitting side and we felt that we could take the hit.
Vogelsong will be a solid pitcher to give us some quality innings with solid ratios to help the Rays on our playoff run. Casilla's value will, of course, primarily be for the remainder of this season, but it should be strong value at a reasonable salary. Huff is a low-end 1B at this point in time but he will make a solid match-up plug and play type that will give us regular quality ABs.
Thanks again to the Giants. I'm off to Tampa for Rays/Red Sox tomorrow (and a little Blue Martini action tonight)! Take care all!

Transactions 2457-2458

Kenny, I didn't want Corey Brown to be added to the 40 man roster, just assigned to Fresno, AAA. I also asked for Harper to be assigned to the 40 man, as well as to Richmond. He (Harper) is on Richmonds' roster as of the latest roster update (5/15), but not on the 40 man. He is on the 40 man on Fantrax, so only a change to the updated rosters needs to be made.
Here's what I wrote above:
For transactions, please place:
Bryce Harper on 40 man roster and Richmond Minor League
Corey Brown to Fresno, AAA
Thanks,
Dick

I'll check tonight. I thought he was already on the 40 man roster.

Corey Brown was already on 40 man roster.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I wasn't aware that if a player was on the 40 man of the other team he must be placed on the 40 man of my team.
No problem, as I have room on my 40 man.
Also, just wanted to make sure Harper is on my 40 man, as well as assigned to Richmond?
Thanks,
Dick.

Yes, it didn't show up on the last update. I've corrected it on my computer. Will show up on next upload.

Thank you sir.
