Jose Bautista signed through 2015  {2012} $14,000,000, {2013} $14,000,000, {2014} $14,000,000 {2015} $14,000,000.
Andrew Hutchinson SP

and

$10,000,000 in 2012 cash

in exchange for

Jason Heyward {2012} $480,000, {2013} ARB, {2014} ARB, {2015} ARB
Julio Teheran {2012} $440,000, {2013} 3 years, [2014} ARB, {2015} ARB {2016} ARB
Andrelton Simmons SS

I make this deal because I am huge believer in Jason over the life of this contract. I have faith that Jason will out perform Jose in the final 2 years of this deal at a fraction of the price. Adding a top 5 pitching prospect that I think will be electric come september is just a beautiful thing. Simmons is a top infield prospect and will be a nice add to my minor league system.

I do this deal for obvious reasons. I am looking to contend this year and Jose Bautista will help me accomplish that. I will give the Phils a run for their money this year no doubt with adding 1 of the top hitters in the game today. I also don't lose much in the way of cap space with this deal either. It is a high price to pay, but one I am willing to do.

Very good deal both teams.  I'm impressed with the return Toronto got here.  A pair of high, high upside kids for Bautista.  This will give Atlanta a great shot at winning it all this year, as well.

Agreed.  Great haul for Bautista.  Particularly if Heyward ever puts up the kind of numbers that I anticipate he will.  Atlanta is certainly set up to make a run this season as well with JBats.
