Title: Post Deadline Injuries
Post by: favo_zomg on February 16, 2012, 09:53:10 AM
I am falling REALLY far behind because I cannot find replacements for my injured guys because of the deadlines. Is there a way to implement a new rule next season in regards to this? Like, players can only be called up and signed to IR contracts. My team has been doing strong all year, and it would really stink to lose because of this (especially because I traded my 1st overall as well.)

:iatp: I'm not in the running for a division title, and who knows how many injured players will be back by playoff time, but currently I've got a few injuries on my side as well, and it would be nice to be able to get some sort of points and make use of some of the FAs out there.

I don't know what to do as FA has a deadline so that would be out of the question. The thing I didn't want was people going out at the deadline and signing a couple players and then burying them in the minors as insurance to use if injuries happen.

Any suggestions on what else to do?

I have some good news. Howard should be back on Sunday.

I still have Garrison and Hornqvist injured. And its not like McNabb and Kassian are putting up big numbers. AND Luke Adam is back in the minors. Which means I am now down 3 guys on a year I was hoping would be a cup run.

My suggestion - the rules should state that we can only sign players to IR contracts. And as far as calling players up from your minors - again, they should only count towards IR replacements. A team cannot keep a player on an IR contract or on IR replacement after a specific time frame (aka FA deadline.)

This way, teams do not have to do what Tony did and sign a bunch of rookies to 2 way contracts so he has IR replacements. I really like my minor system and I would rather not sacrifice them in order to stay competitive.

So this states basically what the rules in place already do because the players would actually have to be dropped earlier then the current rules. I could see still being able to bring up players as IR replacements but then this could be done to get players re-signed that where buried in the minors do to under performing.

As for the only being able to sign IR contracts, I don't get it? Like you mean that FA should be open but only can sign IR replacements?

Yes. Once the waiver deadline and FA deadline passes, you should only be able to sign players to an IR contract or call players up from the minors as IR replacements. Any player called up to be an IR replacement cannot be kept on the team once the player he is replacing comes back. Thoughts?

We should re-look at this in the off-season.

Maybe get a list going for all topics/rules to discuss in the off-season?

I could only see calling players up from the minors that are experienced because FA closes so it would be bad I feel to have FA open to sign IR replacements.

Even if it is to only sign ir replacements? I do not want to see something like this happen again as I think it is terrible for the league. You spend all this time building a contender just to llose out to injuries. Isn't that the reason we created the ir replacement rule in the first place?
