Title: Rays Tigers Trade
Post by: PlayerX3D on February 06, 2012, 07:47:02 PM
The Rays and Tigers have agreed to another deal.

Tampa agrees to send:

Hak-ju Lee, SS, AA
Andy Dirks, OF
John Jaso, C

To Detroit for:

Austin Jackson, CF
Nick Castellanos, 3B

Giving up a Top prospect like Hak-ju Lee, particularly at the shortstop position is a tough pill to swallow.  We envision Lee filling out his frame and becoming similar to Derek Jeter in his prime.  However, since acquiring Profar, our need at shortstop is less prevalent than it was before.  Dirks is a solid 4OF that will provide Detroit with flexibility position-wise.  Jaso is a solid backup catcher in a 30 team, 2 catcher league, but with Soto and Napoli, he is expendable.

Nick Castellanos is still a work in progress, but we believe that he is undervalued currently sitting outside the Top 100 prospects.  I envision him becoming a solid everyday player circa-2015.  In the meantime, we had a need in CF after losing Upton, and Austin Jackson gives us a decent option to hold us over until Brett Jackson comes around.

Thanks to Detroit for the smooth dealing.  Their GM knows his stuff and it makes it very easy to trade.

Detroit confirms.

Hak-Ju Lee has been near the top of our wish list as a replacement for Jhonny Peralta (after this season), so I had to jump at the chance to acquire him. I hate that I had to give up Castellanos and my starting CF (Jackson) to do it but that's the way it works. Dirks will provide good depth and Jaso fills my need for a backup catcher.

Thanks again to PlayerX3D for the quick deal.

Updated my justification section to further explain why Tampa did the deal.
