The Pelicans and Timberwolves agree on the following trade. The Pelicans use their available cap/roster space as an asset to acquire a player/pick.
Timberwolves trade:
SG Kenyon Martin Jr. $5.0m (2026)
SF Matt Ryan $2.0m (2025)
MIN 2024 2nd
for
Pelicans trade:
The cap space/roster space available to make this happen.
Once approved, Ryan will go to the G-League and I will post a corresponding move buying out Martin.
-
Agreed. This was a cap space move, as KJ Martin's promise had declined severely since being traded to Philly, and getting off his contract was needed enough to warrant moving Ryan and the 2nd.

Doesnt New Orleans have to send something in a trade here?
-
OUDAN is correct. In the past, Billy clarified that every team involved in a trade must put an asset (pick or player) on the table. I was trying to find the specific reference in the league rules or the question/suggestions section, but I haven't found anything yet.
Could you renegotiate the trade to include an asset coming from Pelicans?
-
Okay, we'll rework it.
-
The official rules do not state anywhere that an asset of some sort need to be sent from both sides.
The current rulebook doesn't have any replies or updates. So why is this deal needing to be re-worked?
-
As per my previous post, it is not written in the league rules but the previous LM Billy clarified in the past that every team involved in a trade must put an asset (pick or player) on the table.
Anyway it is just a technicality. If you are not willing to renegotiate the trade to include an asset from Pelicans, I will approve the deal as it is, considering that a specific rule is currently not in the league rules.
I will update the league rules to include it and going forward in every new trade any team involved must put an asset (pick or player) on the table

Thanks for this resolution of pushing the deal through and updating rules as needed.

:veto:
i will still stand on this on rules "In a salary dump, every team involved in the trade must put at least one asset (pick or player) on the table."
Cap space move = Salary Dump.

Just to clarify, the sentence "In a salary dump, every team involved in the trade must put at least one asset (pick or player) on the table." was not included in the league rules, I added it yesterday after the discussion on the Pelicans/Wolves trade

:judge:
@Brent do you confirm the buy-out of Martin?

Yes, and pay it all on 2024 books.

Still, my one veto wont affect anything the trade will still push. But i see that last day the rule thread is still not edited when i see that sentence and now its different, oh well. :toth:
